Would you pay for braces for entirely cosmetic reasons?

Pretty much this. I say this as a kid who had to have 4 teeth extracted, 2 pulled down that would not descend, braces, bridges and a retainer. I would have been able to chew and talk and probably would not have any issues until old age, except possibly missing teeth- which even shifted teeth are generally fine for adults- but I would have looked a hot mess. My parents spent basically 8-10% of their take home for 2-3 years to make me not doomed to really being ostracized. |

No, they don't. They look normal. Its normal in the US to have perfect teeth and they look so much better than peoples' teeth in other countries. People on these boards love to say this but its really just an excuse for being cheap imo. Get your DD brace, OP. Absolutely. |

Just did this for my 17 year old daughter - her teeth and bite were perfect during all her awkward years and then shifted and were a little cramped and crooked when she was in HS. Invisalign has been great and faster than regular braces - smile will be perfect in under one year.

| Aren't most braces done for aesthetic reasons? Did and would do again, do for me, for DD, DH did it, nothing was wrong with anybody's jaw. Unless kids has prefect teeth and they look great. |

What a ridiculous statement. Why don't we all just have nasty gaps, crooked teeth... And they don't look fake, and even if they did, I'd rather look at a person with nice "fake" smile than at nasty gapy, crooked teeth. Trashy people have trashy teeth. |

Alas, true. My parents only had enough money for 2/5 to get braces. My 2 younger siblings had horribly crooked upper teeth. Mine crooked teeth were only bottom. They got the braces - don't begrudge them as their teeth were horrible. But I am sure folks notice my crooked teeth. |
