Do you Drink? Do your Friends?

I won't lie - I love my wine and and the occasional cocktail, but I have cut back quite a bit since hitting 50 and feel much better. I never have more than one glass of wine if I drink during the week (and most days don't drink at all ) and never more than 2 when we go out a few times a month.

51....over the past couple years whenever I had more than a couple glasses of wine and/or beer I get sick, I take it as a sign to let it go....kinda like when I became lactose intolerant in my 40s, oh the joys of getting older lol

It just feels terrible - during and after. I would say most of my friends are similar. Getting really drunk as an older person is just a really, really bad look.

I still have 1-2 drinks socially a couple times a month. Or if the mood strikes, I'll buy a bottle of wine and have a glass per night over 4-5 nights.

This is me exactly. 55 y.o.

I feel flushed, red faced and feel like my blood pressure is up when I drink. It's not an extreme feeling but feels slightly uncomfortable, enough that I usually decline alcohol.

I am drinking a tall boy right now

I've stopped for medical reasons. My DH and many of my friends have cut back. We used to go through bottles and bottles of wine at a dinner party, now 1 or 2 is enough.

My drinking habits are one drink on occasion now. I am late 50’s. It makes me feel ill

I get it...same thing is happening to me. I still work. I am 57. Hubby retired at 60. He is 10 years older than me.
I have cut out drinking because it makes me feel sick. I have sbout 2 Cosmo martinis a year.

Hubby drinks alot and becomes drunk often during the week. He has ruined vacations, weddings, and other social occasions for me with his habit.
Alcoholism runs in his family. He denies there is a problem. I am really turned off by this and just tolerate sex with him.
I guess i need al anon as our marriage is going down the tubes. (Married 31 years)

Used to love my booze but now I get sick with even a sip. Following a very healthy lifestyle now because want to live and love long.

A huge selling point for me is -
Comfortable, easy to maintain, stylish clothes that I can layer

Comfortable and stylish shoes

Experiences - concerts, shows, travel

Very delicious, healthy, nutritious food

Massages, classes, self care.

I’m 47 and just can’t drink wine like I used to. Often just one glass gives me a headache.

Glad its not just me. At 49 1 glass gives me restless sleep, 2 means I am up at 2, 3 means a hangover. Worse with red wine

50. I drink, went to a club last weekend and had fireball shots with a group of 40 year olds, it was fun and kinda funny. I love getting mojitos and margaritas when I travel or grab one with a friend after work. I also drink a cocktail at home about once a week. Wine puts me to sleep so I skip that. I have many friends who drink wine on weeknights with dinner. I usually wait until the weekend to get a buzz on.

I drink more now than I did when I was younger, in part because I can afford it now. There wasn't a lot of appeal in cheap wines, and of course cocktails weren't popular in my 20s/30s the way they are now. So now I am far more likely to order a cocktail when we go out, and have a glass of wine with dinner. Most of our friends seem to enjoy wine with dinner as well. I never have more than 1-2 glasses of anything though, and can't remember the last time I was drunk. Maybe 20 years ago? I am trying to cut back right now as part of losing weight - limiting to once a week.

54, never drank. My friends don't drink.

I drink but as I've gotten older I don't bounce back like I use to. 20 years ago I could take 2 Excedrin before going to bed and wake up feeling fine. Not today and I hate feeling like crap for most of the next day. Now I limit myself to one drink and then a glass of wine at dinner. I enjoy it but know I should skip the calories.

I don't drink any longer, but all of my friends do. I feel like they are more interested in drinking than ever.
