So people who go to national parks should dress in pant suits and/or skirts and blouses? Maybe, just maybe, she wore that outfit for comfort while on an airplane and *gasp* changed later on! |
Nor should half the American public |
True; shorts are just like an exposed breast or something. It's really the same thing. She should--we ALL SHOULD--be wearing high-necked blouses and skirts that cover our super-sexy ankles. You wold never see the anchorwomen on Fox wearing shorts, and they are my touchstone for all things good and true. Shorts, in fact, are the terrorist fist bump of fashion. |
She's not wearing sofi shorts or low cut short shirts with a cami and sports bra. Even the kids look conservative for kids in shorts. They look like the prep family in an LLbean ad for hot weather action. |
I absolutely adore her spirit -- and think she looks great. What a breath of fresh air! -- a Bush supporter (yes, you read that right!) |
ROFL |
You can make light of it, but what about those Marine guards who were dressed in their full wool dress uniform in that Arizona heat? Do you think we should have a double-standard such that Marines on duty must their uniform, but the First Lady can wear whatever she wants? The President wasn't wearing shorts. It's OK for the kids to wear shorts, b/c they're not performing any jobs, but the First Lady? |
the President and the First Lady are not enlisted in the US military. the concept of "double standard" does not apply here. |
How much was she getting paid for that "promote awareness" trip? |
The First Lady doesn't draw a salary. (Sounds like that was a rhetorical question, but nonetheless...) |
Anyone offended by a woman wearing shorts should perhaps go to the Middle East and hide themselves under a burqua! |
Agreed. And, to the poster drawing a parallel to a military uniform: do you really not understand why that is not a good comparison? That is just silly. |
Please turn off Fox news, read what I have bolded, and tell me this is not an absolutely insane question. You are someone who dislikes the Obamas, holds them to a different standard, and looks for any reason to criticize them. Period. You are someone who can only look at the surface of things, aren't you? For instance, you probably know nothing of her support of and efforts on behalf of military families. Are you a supporter of the previous administration? Are you aware of that administration's *actual* treatment of our men and women in uniform? |
I love Michelle and her style. I think she can wear shorts and be comfortable for hiking, but what she wore in particular was just not cute. She has worn more casual clothes at appropriate times but they usually are cute and stylish. This was an off day for her. But since she is my hshero, it is allowed! |
No, I don't watch Fox News, have read the NY Times for as long as I can remember, and voted for Obama this election. I hate to break it to you, but being critical of Michelle Obama wearing shorts while engaged in her first lady function does not make me Rush Limbaugh. And, you should not jump to rabid conclusions and go on the attack just because you don't like what you hear. I am a huge fan of Michelle Obama, and I LOVE her fashion sense. But it is my considered view that it is not proper decorum for the First Lady of the United States to wear shorts to an official function while others (i.e., the Marine guards), who are also on duty, were sweating it out in their wool uniforms. And Michelle Obama's support of the military has no relevance to this debate. My comments don't in any way suggest that she doesn't support the military; rather, it's a comment about government officials on duty, and what they can properly wear in keeping with the dignity of their office. Duh. |
