At what income is it appropriate to buy a 200k car?

I'd be afraid of getting robbed, OP. Seriously in this environment we are just a small step away from civil unrest.

I think you can afford the car but as a pp said, I would be sure that you have trusts set up for your kids and are adding to them annually.

1.5 Mil is a lot of money. (more than my net worth at 53).

But, 1.5, with a 3 mil Net worth...income can go away quickly. Real quick. In two years, you should be worth closer to 5 mil (assuming the economy does not collapse). Maybe then.

I see no justification for buying a $200,000 car. I would never do it, even if I had $10 million. If you want to show off your wealth while doing good at the same time, why not donate that amount to a local charity and then get a seat on its Board?

Exactly

Why? That's my HHI and Id NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS NEVER EVER EVER by a 200k car. We drive new reliable Japanese cars and keep them for 7 or so years, right ehrn maintenance becomes a hassle. I aldo dont buy expensive purses, shoes, or jewelry.

We use our money to travel and to radically change our kids future for the better.

I personally think ostentatious displays of copious consumption and wealth are tacky and shoes overt insecurity.

Why does he want it?

I'm sorry to be that guy, but it just seems wrong to me.

This thread has been invaded by a lot of crazy weirdos. OP - you can afford it. If he wants it and you are ok with it, to for it. I am sure that he works really hard. You have enough saved and can enjoy some of your $. Personally, cars are not my thing, but they are to your husband.

OP didn't really give us enough details; there's no way for us to know that they could truly afford it.

So what if they make $1.5M if they have $4M in debt?

Travel is not worth it. Plain and simple. Cars are so much more fun. I am a girl. I will take cars over any travel.

Sorry, but that's a really weird comment. What does "I am a girl" have to do with anything?

Woah, who are the weirdos making these straight out of the 1950s comments?

He should buy the car if he has a burning desire to announce to the world that "I have a ton of money."

Has to do with the stereotypes like micropenis compensation. Some people just like cars.

What's so good about travel. I dread all traveling. You just like different things.
