This is what I do not get. Why must one parent sacrifice their career so that the other can pursue theirs? And does being the one to stay home give the other parent the excuse to be absent?
How about both do careers with 40h work week and both care for their children

To be honest, I think it's a fair question. They both pleaded guilty.

My guess it is that the secret service guy had multiple counts against him. It may also depend on the jurisdiction. The fact that he was in the secret service may have been a factor. Apparently, prosecutors were seeking life in prison, which seems a little extreme. Why bother pleading when you're going to have the book thrown at you either way? I feel weird for defending a guy who sent dick picks to underage girls.

This info is directly from Louise Mensch. I'm not sure how accurate it is. If it were true why would he not fight and force the 16 year old to appear in court?

As i said up thread - multiple counts, multiple underage women, and actual effort to go meet up in person. FWIW, while Weiner's behaviour is completely out of line, he never made any attempt to get together physically with the minor. I also think that although he's been caught texting multiple other women, they've all been over 18. To my knowledge this is the first minor for Weiner. That doesn't excuse his behaviour, but it probably does explain the sentencing differential in these two cases.
