I saw an article that said his wife asked a friend to check on him after the concert. The friend broke into his hotel room and found the body. She must have had reason to be concerned.

I also read that. But I'm also reading that his family is disputing the ME's findings and when the wife did speak to him the previous night, nothing suggested he was depressed.

I think she said she asked the friend to check on him b/c she didn't hear back from him.

His wife has issued more statements, that Chris told her he took 1 or 2 more extra Activan Wednesday night, was acting weird on the phone and slurring his words. She did not disclose why he was on Activan, but usually that's for anxiety or panic disorder, not depression. So she called security to have them check on him in person and he was found. A side effect of Activan is increased paranoia and suicidal thoughts. I take Xanax, another benzo, drs are super clear how dangerous it can be if you take too much. Besides the bad thoughts, you can also just fall asleep and never wake up (like Heath Ledger). So sorry for this family.

She is denying it because suicide cancels out any life insurance policy he may have had.

Doubt they need to rely on life insurance. Maybe she doesn't want to believe that he would intentionally/willingly take his life?

This. He's not an office drone. Life insurance would be irrelevant to his financial status. I think it may be about his legacy as well and not having his death lumped in with Cobain, Weiland, Staley, etc.

Jesus, calm down.

I personally don't know his financial status. Many artists/celebrities have blown through all their money and ended up in debt.

There's a difference between being a performer in a band that had a few hits and being the writer of dozens of platinum selling songs in multiple groups. He has retained the publishing rights to much of his catalog, which is a vast. His net worth is probably hovering in the $30 million range.

Right, because everyone's looking to cover Spoonman.

But in his lifestyle, did he blow through all that $30 million? Again, I didn't know him. I don't think you did, either. I have only sympathy for his family, but you can't automatically assume he is worth tens of millions.

+1 The side effects of these drugs can be profound.

So weird I just introduced my daughter to Black hole sun two days ago. There is a recent interview with him talking about Weiland where Cornell was called a survivor of the grunge area in reference to the all of the losses over the years. He didn't seem like the type honestly in comparison to some of his peers.

Heath Ledger's autopsy says he died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine. It stated the manner of his death was an accident, resulting from the abuse of prescribed medications.

That isn't just falling asleep and never waking up.
