Prek-only 1- old teacher did not like Hill and bad mouthed him to parents
K-none
1st-only 1 (new classroom added -no replacement)
2nd-only 1 old teacher moved to Florida
3rd-none
4/5- only 1 old teacher went to work for Mayor

Those are the only new teachers the other three positions were new positions-Science, ESL, and ECE SPED they didn't replace anyone

So only 3 teachers left last year. Another example of LOUD being mistaken as mass.

Plus 4 sped teachers replacing 4 sped teachers from last year.

Not parent at the school but I heard that a popular Spanish teacher left?

Bummer, Principal Jackson from Coolidge is leaving. Wow, a good guy...given a second and third chance to lead schools. Wish him well, not surprised because he did announce at earlier this year that he was leaving.

He does a great job paying lip-service to prospective parents, but every time I've tried to work with him as a current parent he has no time for me and refuses to listen to any ideas. We are leaving Garrison next year in large part because of our interactions with him. We also have a very good WL number at CMI. Our experience with him is bad enough that I would turn down the space (should it be offered) if he is leading the middle school (this is made easier because we did get a space at a different school we are excited about, but one which we would have considered leaving for CMI). I would not want to have to deal with him again.

I understand it's bad PR for principals not to interact with gentrifier parents but come on, you have to understand that there are not unlimited time and resources for a principal to always talk to and deal with one parent on an individual basis (barring of course serious issues that have to go straight to him.) Work through the PTA.

Yup - did this, thanks for the suggestion. This is not about his failure "to interact with gentrifier parents" but instead about his incredibly rude response (essentially telling me to shut up, and that I should never speak to any teacher/staff member again that wasn't my child's direct teacher) to the PTA-approved e-mail that I sent him.

I have no dog in this fight, as I'm not a DCPS teacher or parent. But I have to wonder WHY he would tell you such a thing. Like, what were you doing to make him RESPOND in this way? (After all, it was a RESPONSE--not him just deciding to approach an innocent parent who was minding her own business and being a jerk to her.) Why would you speak to any adult in the building who isn't directly involved with your child? There are two sides to every story. And from where I sit, it seems you may have behaved in a way that warranted such a response.

Someone mentioned that the Principal at Wheatley is leaving. Anyone knows where he is going? He had a great presence when we visited the school and had been there for quite awhile since leaving one of the NW schools (Janney or somewhere like that).

I would imagine that Hill was fucused more on the families that wanted to have their kids at Garrison for longer than 1-2 years. Turning Garrison into a performing school will take the next 15 to 20 years. He knew that, and most intellegent folks sending their 3/4 year olds there for school (daycare) know that too.

It's a fine option for prek, but it is widely known that the masses flock to other options due to poor performance and lack of feeder options for middle/high school.

And as a final note...you might be a fool for passing on CMI because your undies are in a bunch.

Some of the posters here seem to foget that just because a principal is leaving doesn't necessarily mean it is against his/her will.....

I've heard he has health issues from teachers and such a high-pressure position has been tough on him.

I am.a parent at Garrison. I am.so shocked by this. I have had many interactions with him, he was never rude. Lots of lip service, sure. But never rude or unapproachable. My kid loves him. I know that some of the parents don't like him but I was neutral on him.
