S/O Dad interrupted by kids video. Uninvolved dad or no?

Anonymous
Steph curry handles it better when Riley interrupts but I think the dad was just flustered. He did not handle it well but I don't think it means he is a bad H.

I think it's weird the mom did not just apologize and take the children calmly,

Seriously!! If it were a mom would you have expected her to break and collect the kids? No!!

Of course! I had to work many times from home and my husband (or a babysitter) was responsible for the kids during the skype or phone interviews. First, I would be very upset if he/she let the kids in the room during an interview. Second, yes, he/she would need to get the kids. This is not a time to show any involvement.

And, yes, it would be funny and cute if he stopped the work to play with the children. But maybe he is not even wearing pants! And, if it was a woman, it would be worse because everyone would say she was unprofessional - "how come she can talk about conflicts in North and South Koreas with children playing around?".

He was certainly under a serious time crunch and needed to convey a large amount of information quickly. There is no "cut!" and reshoot in live tv. If he blew it by picking up the older kid (like a "natural good dad" would apparently do) you better believe that kid would be jabbering away and the interview time would have been totally wasted.

The way he would handle it was much more natural and sweet, and that's the image I had in my head for comparison when I saw the video.

Get back to us after he's been interrupted on live TV.

I can get back to you now. He's very poised and natural and genuine, and would've done the same in that situation. That's my point. Not that it's a direct comparison, but that he's a loving dad who exhibits more grace under pressure. Some are better than others at that.

Is he such an expert that media from other countries seek him out?

This dad handled it fine. It was a huge moment in his career, and while he may not have had perfect grace under pressure, he did just fine.

It's nice that your husband is able to handle the kids so impressively while on a less important call, but a little weird that he's had so much practice.

Sample size (a few seconds of parenting) was way to small to make any statements about his parenting. I know that I've shoved (gently) my preschooler into our spare room and shut the door when she started getting loud when I was on an important call (thankfully not video). I love her and she's a great kid, but sometimes work does come first-so we can have a place to live and food and insurance.

She actually took it well and retreated to the bed.

Yeah she was sitting quietly. It wasn't until he baby rolled in that all hell broke loose lol

I have been live on national tv (CNN about 2 years ago) and it was beyond nerve wracking. There's no way I would have been so cool and collected had everything gone to hell in 35 chaotic segments during my segment. He was a champ! I hope he and mom had a good laugh later.

Was he hoping she'd go away with that push? What if she came back, got pushed back again and started crying? This guy is lucky Mom came in just then (after obviously being unlucky he forgot to lock the door).

No one is talking about it because it's a non-issue. But way to try to stir up the shit pot. Clearly the kids enjoy their father since they worked so hard to get to him. The dude was WORKING FCOL. You're looking to make something that isn't there

Honestly, the people making these loony observations about this video either don't have kids or don't have the kind of jobs where working from home is ever an option.

I will never get this. I saw that and immediately saw a panicked mom who knew her husband was on air and she had turned her back on the kids for a second. Never once did it occur to me it was the nanny. Did anyone even look at the older kid? She's clearly half Asian.

I guess I assumed that because I forget that some mothers don't work.

WTF?

You have no idea whether the mother works outside the home or not. There is a 9 hour time difference between Korea and Britain, so it's quite likely that he was being filmed at a time outside of working hours.

NP here. I assumed it was the nanny because of the way she handled it, not because she is Asian. The way she seemed so panicked, and crawling in and out the door with them. I didnt actually find the video sweet or particularly amusing, and I found her handling of it kind of poor and embarassing. YMMV, of course.

They live in South Korea. It's probably a small apartment.
