What is the best local Hospital ER?

We are dealing with a mystery malady in an adult which went to ER last night but felt diagnosis we received was wrong. Things seem to be worsening and urgent care had no idea -- so if some one has an urgent but not 911 issue where should they go? Looking for solid diagnosis. Looking at Georgetown, GWU, Sibley, or Inova ffx?

Of the DC ones, I'd pick Georgetown. Knock Sibley off the list--great place to go for known not too major problem like an asthma attack, but this isn't your case. GW is also okay, but I prefer Georgetown. Inova has gotten some good reviews here, but no personal experience.

+1

I would suggest whichever one has a trauma center that is closest to you.

Give the wait times at most ERs, choosing one that offers better service that may be an additional 15 minutes away is perfectly reasonable.

If it is critical, there is no wait. I went into Fairfax ER when they were jammed. Came in by ambulance after my heart stopped. I was awake and coherent at the er, but was treated immediately.

Now, if you come in with a cold...ya gonna wait for people like me.

We went to Sibley since we live few minutes away with a toddler cut on the face. I just couldn't think straight at the moment and was glad I was able to drive.
There was no wait in the middle of the day and luckily for us, a plastic surgeon was on his way there.
As I said, can't really think straight when something happens and I hope the ERs work together and send the kid to children's if they feel there is a need.

Perfectly fine--we've done the exact thing for one of our kids. This is pretty uncomplicated; something that needs to be tended to immediately but would not require hospitalization. Perfect for a trip to Sibley. We had the same experience of the speedy arrival of a plastic surgeon.

In DC Georgetown. For Kids Children's. For a serious burn, WHC, they have the burn unit.

In NOVA I still stand with Fairfax INOVA. I live I. Alexandria but can't stand Alexandria INOVA. Been there too many times with horrible staff issues I now just drive over to Fairfax.

In Maryland, if it's really bad, they will medivac you to shock trauma in Baltimore, but that's for the horrible case as they are a true shock Center.

If those I would pick Georgetown or Fairfax (which is a Medstar facility so they have Georgetown doctors at both). Both have good hospital reputations if the person is admitted. Good luck

GW for adults, Inova Fairfax. Reston is by far the worst place, just terrible on multiple occasions in the past 20 years

Inova Fairfax is NOT a MedStar facility. Biggest downside of Georgetown is that if you have a cardiac issue you will be transferred to Washington Hospital Center.

That must be new, because last time I was in the ER (2years ago) my friend who works at Georgetown was allowed to come into the FFX ER to work with her team she had been training at Georgetown to work on me. Does that make sense? But my other ortho who has INOVA Alexandria rights was not allowed.
But had to participate over the phone, it was a shock trauma type of situation. They needed all hands on deck.

Nope, not new. Inova Health System (5 hospitals + urgent care centers + outpatient facilities) has never been part of the MedStar Health System. Most likely the physician had privileges at both places so was able to provide care in the ER at Fairfax. Sounds like the ortho at Inova Alexandria only had privileges at that facility, not Inova Fairfax. Georgetown is not a level-1 trauma center like Fairfax is. If it was a resident, there's a chance he/she could have been doing a rotation at Fairfax.
(Btw...Inova is not all caps )

I've been to Washington Adventist, Fairfax Inova, GW, and Doctors Community. All were decent. I was able to get an emergency MRI at Doctor's Community which I liked.

Washington Adventist was the worst. I had a 12+ hour wait to be seen and the characters that came in the waiting room that night were the worst.

I would only go to Children's with a true emergency. It is definitely not the place for an urgent but not emergent situation. The wait time is abysmal, but also the other patients are a nightmare. Folks letting their kids puke on the floor directly (no effort to find a trash can or bag), sick kids running amok. I wouldn't go back in anything but an ambulance that would guarantee us a trip past the waiting room.

I was in the ER at GW with the person in the gurney next time handcuffed to the bed with a police escort. It was entertaining.

You must work at Inova...the all cap thing drives Iniva employees nuts. Also, a PP listed two of the Inova facilities Fairfax Inova and Alexandria Inova... Drives me crazy
