I am a senior research scientist. I am paid to think and solve hard problems. I love the challenge. I regularly face things I have never seen before, and am constantly learning.
The job is in the field directly related to my PhD, and I have 20 + years within the organization. Oh, and I am paid pretty well. |

I'm a public health professional.
Some days I do research/data analysis, other days I do program design. I get to read research articles to stay current (time permitting) and learn something new every week. I get to travel the world and meet people dedicated to improving the lives of their countrymen by improving health systems. I feel incredibly fortunate that I get to do something that is intellectually stimulating, inspiring, and fulfilling -- and doesn't pay all that badly, either. Yeah, I have to feed the beast often, but have learned to do that quickly so that I can focus on the far more meaningful stuff. |
| college career director. had great career myself and like helping young people get jobs they enjoy |
| nonprofit development- i like writing, i like talking to people. its still a job, but i don't hate it at all. |

Psychologist employed by a university/part-time private practice seeing adults. People are just fascinating and helping them cope better and be happier is often very rewarding.
I love what I do. Used to be an attorney and didn't love it so much. |

I'm a senior manager in local government.
I love the people I work with and very much believe in the services my agency provides and see the value and impact they have in people's lives every day. It's very motivating. I worked in corporate America for many years before this and it didn't do it for me. I don't care about making money or making other people money. I want to get paid and all, it's just not THE driving factor for me. I prefer to see the impact of what I'm doing on real people and feel good about it. I get to do a lot of strategic thinking and problem solving. Every day is different and I'm never bored. I also have great work-life balance. |
Thank you for what you do. I've been down this road 3 times with family members and couldn't have done it without hospice. |
| Social science research. It's meaningful work to me, and it's intellectually stimulating. I've worked in public sector and academic/community focused research settings, and both have been pretty flexible with a fair amount of autonomy and great colleagues. |
| International development. I love my job and my counterparts overseas are genuinely inspirational. I earn next to nothing, but I genuinely enjoy my work. |
| I'm a pre-op nurse and I put IV's in people all day long and it is SO.MUCH.FUN. A total challenge, and when you' get a PT with difficult veins and you get it on the first try, it's so gratifying ? |
I meant- it's so gratifying!!!!! |
