What Is Happpening at Spring Hill?

Then Spring Hill can keep its current apartments and accommodate any new apartments built within the part of its current boundary near Tysons. Then FCPS should move those and other apartments in Tysons to Cooper/Langley as well.

14:12 here. That actually sounds like it might make sense so it probably has little chance of happening!

They should rezone the southern section (south of 123) of Potomac School Road, Langley Lane, Ballantrae Lane, and Ballantrae Farm Road to give those addresses (not so many of them in this area) the OPTION of sending their high school-age children to either McLean (where they are currently zoned) or Langley.

I say this because those addresses are closer to Langley High School than McLean High School, because there are not so many addresses in question, and because Langley High School is projected to have under-enrollment for some time to come, whereas McLean High School will be operating at or near capacity.

Bad idea. Better to wait and see if some of the older Langley neighborhoods in western McLean and Great Falls turn over and become more attractive to younger families again. Or, as previously noted, move part of Tysons to Langley to add some much-needed diversity to Langley.

Neither I nor any other Langley parents I know would care one way or the other if apartments in and around Tysons were rezoned to Langley. I think many of you like to imagine the Langley community as being this monolithic group, vastly opposed to any rezoning, when in reality, that's simply not the case.

If you have issues with the way in which these areas are zoned, take it up with the SB. Don't smear the Langley community for something we have no control over.

Nice effort to spin, but the majority of the Spring Hill parents agitating to get apartments zoned out of Spring Hill are zoned for Langley. If you want Langley to be viewed more favorably, you should let the School Board know that under-enrolled Cooper and Langley will gladly welcome students from Tysons.

You seem to be the only one spinning (frantically, by the way). "The majority of Spring Hill parents..."?? Are you a Spring Hill parent? How would you possibly know what the "majority" want? Have you polled them? Admit it: you're disgruntled and upset that the zoning isn't going the way you'd like it. I'm actually in the Langley pyramid and know of no one who is "agitating to get apartments zoned out of Spring Hill," or Langley in general. Stop spreading rumors. It only makes you look foolish.

If the SB chooses to rezone apartments to Spring Hill and/or Langley boundaries, so be it. No one's standing in their way.

Exactly. I'm also a Langley pyramid parent and I had always assumed the apartments were zoned for Langley (I had no idea they weren't -- I never checked, because I don't care!)

I'm a Langley parent and don't care if they zone apartments to Langley or not. I think the PP claiming "the majority of Spring Hill parents..." blah blah blah is full of B.S. S/he just loves to paint the Langley community as the villain here, when the reality is, it's the School Board making these decisions.

So, by "majority" you mean you and your friends or "everyone" you know? Not very convincing.

There's no majority agitating. It's just the one pp.

Nice try to obfuscate the issue, but it's clear from SB minutes and work sessions that there is a group of mostly Langley parents at Spring Hill pushing to have apartments moved out of Spring Hill's district. Just because you have a School Board member as your puppet doesn't mean you aren't pulling the strings.

Which minutes and work sessions?

We're in Vienna and we've heard about Langley parents throwing their weight around. Why do you think Marshall kids have to go right by Colvin Run ES on their way to Westbriar ES?

Nothing reported here about the Spring Hill parents surprises me.

Wow. Links, please? We'll wait. You know you're blowing smoke, PP.

Interesting, because I'm an actual Colvin Run parent and have attended many SB meetings. Colvin Run parents have lobbied hard to keep the SB from assigning "islands" to Westbriar/Marshall when they're closer to Colvin Run. What neighborhoods are you talking about?

Nothing Langley haters say surprise me. You're so predictably bitter.

The neighborhoods zoned for Westbriar even though Colvin Run is closer. Apparently the island exists because some Langley parents were worried about getting moved to Marshall when Colvin Run was opened.

No hate, just know Langley parents always expect to get their way.

Right, well people like you will think what they want to think no matter what facts are presented to them. The Langley parents I know (myself included) don't expect to always "get our way," as much as you want to pretend we do. Whatever. I'm sorry you so clearly need a scapegoat for your bitterness.
