+1

Or just block him outright.

Anonymous wrote:Jeff - do you think you'd get nearly as many hits, thus income, if the site was converted overnight to a registered one? Let's be honest -- The anonymity is what makes it popular, just like twitter. He can talk all day about how "difficult" it is, but my bet would be that this archaic platform is financially beneficial to him. And hey, if he's just giving people what they want?

I think usage would drop and that of course would negatively impact revenue. But, most of those arguing for registration only want it for the Political Forum which would have less impact on revenue. However, the issues I outlined are real. If it was just a matter of flipping a switch, I would flip it and then flip it back again if it didn't work out. But, it's a lot more than flipping a switch.

People who can't solve this simple issue don't deserve to have a web business.

You could prove your commitment to registration by registering yourself. Or, I can make things easy by adding a username to the hundreds of posts you've already posted. Just let me know.

Oh yes, definitely add a username to the "hundreds of posts" I've posted. Better yet, block me. But are you really sure it's me? Wouldn't want to out someone innocent, you know?

Just to be clear, you want me to add a username to your posts? For instance, this post discussing your search for a primary care physician?

This highlights one of the issues. The registration system doesn't always work correctly. People forget their passwords and usernames. They change their email address and can't get password reminders. Then they demand that we remove all of the posts linked to their username. It is often a resource challenge to manage the few registered users that we have.

Got it. I would like to register -- the more of us who do, the smaller the pool of potential trolls who can get away with looking like everyone else. Jeff, please let us know when the registration feature is fixed and I would encourage others to register.

You'll be in the minority of people who register. I come to DCUM because I can post freely without worry that my post history can be tracked back to me and my identity found out. Even if Jeff fixes the registration issue, you'll be one of a handful who register. While I self identify on certain posts, I like that it's up to me to do so. I also don't think it'll make the pool of trolls smaller. Trolls register on plenty of other forums and go wild with their trolling. So they'll do the same here on DCUM. I say keep the site as-is and just block the OP of this thread.

I've got to say, even knowing that Jeff can track all my posts (lord, so many posts) is an inhibitor. I come on here when I am procrastinating on work, which is a lot, or when I have a real question, which is less often. I don't think it would be difficult to figure out who I really am based on my IP address and the things I've posted.

TL;DR: As a reader, I'd prefer people to register. As a contributor, I like things as they are. Though it might be fun to develop rapport between posters, I suppose. See what this is like as an actual community, v an unknowably large anon board.

I quickly found 291 and could possibly find more with a little effort. I add a username as soon as the football game is over.

Seriously. Op is a giant prick. It's making my blood pressure skyrocket. Jeff has the patience of a saint. I'd be permanently blocking the a-hole.

+1. And the stupid emoji they keep using is making me hate their posts even more. Can't wait until their username is added and we can see OP's post history. I'm sure it will be good. Actually, I'm sure it will be GREAT. Bigly great. Just yuge.

You will find out that OP has an obsession with Black Lives Matter.

I've started giving usernames to the troll's posts in this thread. I'm now going to do the threads she started. Then I'll get to the rest of her posts.
