Talk to me about Retin-a

Anonymous
I am turning 40 this month and want so badly to like retin-a, but it dries my skin out to the point of painfulness, no matter what strength I use and no matter what moisturizer I use. I'm better off using RoC.

PP which roc product are you using because I think they contain the same retin-a product just at a lesser percentage.

Really? Like just go in and have some acne to show them? And ask for what specifically? Will they give you a script that says it is necessary so insurance will cover?

+1

And what if you have no acne and breakouts? What do you say?

Do you need to have particularly bad acne for them to give it to you? What is a reasonable price to expect? Sorry but I'm brand new at this.

Yes, I did after learning about it from DCUM. I sent in photos (multiple sides) and got a prescription within the hour. The consult was $59 and received a two month supply. I used the GoodRx app to find a coupon for a pharmacy. As I remember, YoDerm will also help you find a coupon or transfer the prescription to a cheaper pharmacy. It was all pretty easy.

Differin is Adapalene, a synthetic retinoid. Its as effective as other forms Retin-A, but gentler and so csn be better for those with mirror sensitive skin. It also takes longer to see results: you need to give it up to 12 weeks.

There's a lot of good information in this thread from reddit's skincare forum.

Ebay takes down the listings as they find them, so you will have to alternate between sellers, but just order a few tubes at once. It is so cheap that you can even order various strengths and formulations (gel, microsphere, cream) all at once and design your own regime.

How do you know that this is legit and not filled with scam, harmful chemicals?

It comes in its boxed, with the inserts. I check batch numbers and dates, which are imprinted on the tube and the box.

Mostly, though, I know it is "legit" because I've been using it for years and I have really great skin.

I bought some retin-a off of Amazon, and it wasn't legit. Didn't work and broke me out. Those knockoffs sometimes have dangerous ingredients. I use Rx retin-a now, so the difference is clear.

How do you know it wasn't "legit"? It is very, very cheap in some countries where it is OTC, so much so that it makes no sense for anyone to produce a "knockoff." "Legit" tretinoin takes a few months to work, and it does break you out in the initial period. What probably happened is that you used an incorrect formulation for your skin type. Tretinoin is produced in cream, gel, and microsphere versions, of varying dosages.

I used prescription Retin-a as a teen, and the other-branded versions I buy online have the same smell.

Thanks. This is very helpful!

Retin-a is very cheap OTC in many countries - almost a dollar a tube. I buy it in bulk when I am travelling. I dilute it significantly with my normal skincare products. My extended family has used it to treat wrinkles, bacne discolorations, crapey skin, keratosis pilaris, stretch marks, rough dry skin etc.

You have to know how to use the product, your skin and what you can do with Retin-a. I am using it on more than my face because it was so ridiculously cheap for me. There is no difference between what you find here and the generic brands from . The reason the cost is more here is because of monopoly. Even the countries where they are selling it for a buck, the profit margins are huge. Probably costs them 10 cents to produce.

Dilute it, check for sensitivity, build up tolerance, exfoliate the peeling skin properly, do not use daily, and protect from sun exposure.

Thanks for the links to the reddit page. I had forgotten to wait to apply it after washing my face. I'm giving retin a a try again and I'll see how it goes this time.
