Do you keep a drying rack or mat by the sink?

I had no idea that not having one was a thing . Putting it away between uses wouldn't incredible ase counter space much anyway, since once I start to cook, if I clean up as I go I need the drying rack.

Exactly! Who has time to dry? Also, those people who saying drying racks are gross, how is it grosser than using a dish towel to dry a bunch of different dishes? You are just spreading germs that way.

This. In kitchen, function over rules style.

A drying rack can also be stored in the sink if you have a double sink.

Then it looks functional vs. tacky.

Nope. We use a dish towel and set the dishes there to dry. I don't like mats because they don't get washed properly and I don't like racks bc they are ugly, even the modern ones. If I had a baby I would have one of those grass ones on the counter.

You are drying clean dishes with a clean towel...

+1.

We hand wash all if our pots, pans, knives and plastic storage containers (I hate how they don't dry all the way in the dishwasher) and we cook a lot at home so there is always something to wash and dry in the dish rack. We have a white quartz countertop and a small white plastic dish rack, so it kind of blends in. Our sink buts up against a higher, bar height peninsula that is L-shaped so you don't see the dish rack from the adjoining (open) living room and dining room. It works for us!

Same here.

Dont care how the mat looks, its rare im not in the middle of a project, even if its inly proofing dough, simmering broth or roasting something. Therr is always something going on.

Why don't you want to run your dishwasher twice a day? A dishwasher uses less water than hand washing and is faster.

I cannot stand the look of a full sized drying rack or even the always out drying mat but I do do hand washing every day. I found a very small (6" x 14"/size of a loaf of bread) stainless drying rack that I keep out by sink (we have an older home so sink is set into a draining ridged stainless countertop so it all blends in visually together) but even that drives my 'can't stand counter clutter' self crazy at times. I use it for knives, daily glass of wine glasses, kid plastic cups but - for hand washing after parties I just set out dish towels. I like the idea of that Japanese cabinet but it looks like it sits over the sink - and I really dislike upper cabinets. I actually have a design for a disappearing drying rack that I hope to proto-type for when we build a new kitchen early next year.

We got a small chrome rack - not the regular large size - and it's also tucked in a corner adjacent to our sink so not very prominent. I couldn't live without it. My mom has one of the mats but I don't like it for drying glasses and other breakables - I'm always nervous they will get knocked over.

I hate the look of them, but finally gave in and bought the Boon lawn thing for the million bottle and pump parts we now have.

No. I can't stand clutter on my counters. If I need to hand wash, I lay out a towel, wash the dishes, dry the dishes, then put them away. I never leave dishes in the sink either. I am a bit of a neat freak.
