Coworker is upset that I don't share food with her

Both seem weird to me. I guess if you need to eat, you need to eat but I would think you could have breakfast before work?

I used to snack at coffee, but couldn't eat otherwise. Hard to use the phone with your mouth full.

Tell her you don't plan to share.

I am eating peanut M&M's while reading this thread.

Are you sure she wasn't joking around? "Oh, that looks good, why don't you share? ha ha ha". I mean, still somewhat annoying, but less completely bizarre.
Anonymous
Lightly fried, spiced tuna and stinky tofu to share.

Why would you be annoyed? I do not get that. (NP here)

Why cater to her?

Watch out for the crazy ones.

Prisons don't have snack machines?

Are you asking a question? Of course they do, at least in my state (NY).

Tell her she can bring her own food and ignore the rest. You don't need to socialize at work. You need to work at work.

Um, coffee isn't a snack. How strange to classify it as such.

OP - First of all since you have a metabolism issue, you need to find a way to eat breakfast between 6/7am and 10am when you get to work. Then you might consider what you could eat as a filler until lunch time that would be as inconspicuous as possible in an open work space. I would think that it would be very unprofessional to see someone constantly eating at thing that looked like snack foods all day. Maybe consult with a nutritionist about what foods/drinks might have the most impact for the buck. And posters are correct that if you offer "snacks" to one employee, there could be expectations from others.

Agree with PP -- she is weird or has some kind of issue. Just do your work and talk to her as little as possible.

I ate a small snack with my coffee at coffee time.

And before anyone gets all up in arms about not needing to eat all the time or whatever, snacking keeps blood sugar in check.

Not really. Snacking all the time simply keeps your blood sugar elevated all the time. Healthy adults eating adequate, satiating meals don't usually require food every couple of hours. If OP goes in at 10, it seems there should be ample time to eat breakfast at home. A good healthy breakfast should keep her going until lunch. Maybe ONE snack between lunch and dinner but to munch all day sounds like a habit more than anything else. And yes if I sat next to OP and she was constantly opening snack packages and crunching chips or pretzels I'd be irritated.

Just do not get the American obsession with snacking all effing day. You let your kids do it too.

Why is this a referendum on OP's snacking habit? OP can do what she wants--it's not her fault she's in an open plan office. OP--you're co-worker is completely inappropriate.
