Peg/gy and Maggie are the only ones that make any sense to me. Otherwise I'd just wonder why you didn't name the kid something else in the first place.

It's also a very annoying gnat bug.

Seriously, it's a beautiful name. If she picks up a nickname along the way, so be it, but why not just use her given name?

+1 yes, as a mother of a Margaret, I couldn't agree more. If a nickname evolves, so be it, but it seems strange to be forcing a nickname prior to birth

Anonymous wrote:OP here - wow, so many responses already, thanks all! I do like Margaret by itself, but Margaret is rhyme-y with the last name, so on a day to day basis a nickname would flow better. Our older DD also has a name that lends itself to sassy old-timey nicknames. Haven't thought about middle names yet, because while we'd really like to use Margaret as a first to honor a particular family member, if we can't get on the same page regarding what we'd actually call her, it will probably end up as a middle.

Like the Mae, Mimi, and Mugs (so cute!) suggestions! DH doesn't like "cutesy", i.e., Maisie, Daisy, or Maggie.

Now that I type it, I think what we're looking for is a sassy, old-timey nickname. Not super girly, and good for an adult, not just little girl. What do you think of Peggy? Too generational still?

Honestly, I think Daisy and Maggie fit this bill perfectly. But Peggy works, too. My issue would be that I don't like Peg at all and I wouldn't want Peggy to be shortened.

Oh please, not this again.

....except that Daisy, Maisie, and Greta are all derived from Margaret every bit as much as Peggy and Maggie are. They all started as nickname for Margaret.
