None of us would have read this as a teen (unless a teen is lurking on here), but Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand is an excellent book for teens to read.

I hadn't thought about this book in a long time. Now I can't stop thinking about if I'll recommend it to
my future teen. Are there positive messages? Lessons? Self-reliance? Friendship?

Or is it mostly about ugliness?

Stranger in a Strange Land and Time Enough for Love - Robert Heinlein. Lamb- The Gospel According to Biff, His Childhood Pal- Christopher Moore, The Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff, Neuromancer - William Gibson, Jitterbug Perfume, Tom Robbins. Fahrenheit 451- Ray Bradbury. Brave New World - Aldous Huxley.

Hated Catcher in the Rye.

Oh - and The Women's Room - Marilyn French - but that's probably not going to resonate with a teen boy.

I was probably about 12 when i read it. It's about a boy who has a swiss army knife and goes off to live in the wilderness. With his pocket knife, he builds a home, animal traps, fishing poles, etc. To this day, I think swiss army knives are awesome.

Oh my god, I loved that book. And he tamed a falcon.

Didn't read it as a teen, but that was one of the funniest books I've ever read.

Agree with Autobiography of Malcolm X (this is coming from a white girl).

Same. Malcolm X book is phenomenal. Completely engrossing and readable.
