| we're just going to reply to this 8 years later in case anyone else comes here. yes, twenty one pilots is appropriate for a 9 year old. their main audience might be a bit older (14-17), but they're definitely family friendly. there's no swearing, other than "hell" a few times (refering to heaven and hell) and "whore" in ode to sleep (a biblical reference. see judges 2:17). their music talks a lot about mental health and i'd be deeply concerned if a 9 year old related to those dark topics, but it's still enjoyed by any age. the deeper meanings are dark, but their music is still open for interpretation and good for any audience. it's saved lives. they saved mine. but a 9 year old should NOT be exposed to something like a fifth harmony concert. sure, the music might be catchy, but that is not appropriate for a child in any way, shape, or form. twenty one pilots would be a much better option. |

| Yes! However, I may be biased in my answer. I was just about that age when i started listening to them and i absolutely adored their songs. But just a huge warning, many of their songs have subtle/hidden themes of battling depression and suicide as well as overcoming those dark things. But on the plus side, at that age I was WAY too young to even catch onto those subtle themes and never even knew about them until I was older, to which their music then helped me get through some of the hardest times of my life! So honestly, it depends on how you want to look at it, what you may personally think of as "appropriate, and it also definitely depends on the individual child and how you think these factors may or may not influence your child. Twenty one pilots are amazing! Best of luck! |

I am 13and a HUGE Twenty One Pilots fan. My sister showed me their music and it has helped me through a lot. Some of their music talks about suicide, but it's all saying to stay alive. Their themes of dealing with anxiety and depression help me to not feel alone. It's also nice to be able to listen to none Christian music that is clean and still has Biblical meanings in it. I am taking my sister to a concert soon, and will be able to speak more on the concert side of the discussion later, if anyone even sees this. God bless and stay alive friend.|-/
