Baby switched at birth at Sibley

I had a terrible experience there as well and am white. Led me to a home birth for my next child. So much better.

Me too. The PP nursing care and lactation support were terrible.

That being said, this is partly why I chose to deliver in a hospital with no nursery. I don't think you can send your child to a nursery and be totally shocked when this happens.

Do any of you understand humor? Of course she didn't think the other woman had Ebola, but she could have easily had many other diseases. Sick women give birth ALL THE TIME.

This is a big deal. The fact that so many of you don't think so, or pretend that you don't think so in typical DCUM shit, is troublesome.

Of course it's a big deal, but like the child who incorrectly had the tongue tie clipped, it's only a big deal because procedures weren't followed, not because anything bad actually happened.

I agree. But it could have happened. And it's so preventable.

Right. An investigation is warranted. But not this over the top whining article.

I'm trying to remember-- I'm pretty sure when I gave birth at Inova they scanned the bracelets each time my babies and I were reunited. (Have given birth at 3 Inova hospitals.)

Regardless of people's issues with OP, it does seem like this the article would have been superior if she'd compared the antiquated system at Sibley to an area hospital that actually has a superior system.

Ebola's a ridiculous stretch. Bigger concern would be TB or pneumonia. If I were the other mother you bet I'd tell her I had a sickness. It's called consideration.

Forgive me, (I'm 16:41). I'm still bitter about my experience. I shouldn't have made it a race thing.

Where did you see that? She had every right to find out what exactly happened to her child while this stranger had her. Are you insane???

OP - please disregard the bitches here. I would have been mortified if someone gave my child to a stranger no matter how short the "visit" was. It is absolutely okay that you spoke to this woman since the hospital was not giving you the whole story. I am sorry that this happened to you. They should definitely have better security measures and maybe now they will.

Oh give me a fucking break. No, you don't ever have the right to track down and harass another patient. Not even to confirm your precious snowflake was fed formula, horrifying as that is to contemplate.

The fact that you keep calling this child her special snowflake is ridiculous. I won't what you would have done if this happened to you? Did you hand your newborn over to strangers on the metro? Did they feed your special snoflake?

Didn't think so.

Sibley should have better baby matching procedures, but op comes across as a self-absorbed whiner. #TeamNoOne

They did with me, and I delivered at a small hospital in podunk Bible Belt.

I wouldn't have played detective to track down and harass an innocent party, that's for damn sure.

And Karin is a "writer." She should have put more effort into that Vassar education.

No worries. Just wanted you to know that you weren't alone in your bad experience. Even outside of the my delivery experience, I had a miscarriage and had my D&C there. I will always remember right before they were putting me under, the nurses and anesthetist laughing and joking. I was really furious because I was so devastated and they were joking in my room. Total lack of bedside manner.

Well, that's a great reason to not use the nursery if I ever heard one. Please share to expectant moms forum so the "get your rest!" BS can stop. Keep track of your baby and this shit doesn't happen.
