Maybe your kid would be fine. Many six year olds, mine included, would not be fine. |
And that is OK. My DH insisted my son be in sports. I hate this pressure. If the kids aren't ready - for whatever reason - the lack of ability, lack of interest, or the uncertainty of practice times, it is OK for them not to play. I agree, some kids are just not good if they don't go to bed on time every night. But I also agree with the other posters that the coaches are often busy parents doing their best with the options they are given. Its OK to be frustrated with the time of practice, but don't take it out on the coach. |
Clearly you need to read something about the sleep needs of children. Sure, many preschoolers stay up late, does that mean it is healthy? What is healthy and what people do are often very different things. Do you even know how much sleep kids are supposed to get? |
Early elementary schoolers need 11 hours of sleep. In Loudoun where we live, the ES tardy bell rings at 7:50am and the buses start coming as early as 7:10am in some neighborhoods. So the kids are waking up between 6:30-6:45am. For my child to get 11 hours of sleep she needs to be in bed 7:30/7:45pm and most days she is. Even a 6:30pm start time for practice is too late to get home, get showered and get to bed. |
But that is YOU. My 1st grader starts school at 9:30am in Montgomery County and wakes up at 8am. So she can easily go to bed at 9pm and get 11 hours sleep. |

| Yep, our elementary starts at 915 and we do afternoon preschool. Bedtime is 9. I can't imagine having a normal life putting kids to be at 7:30! Glad I don't live in loudoun county! That school start time would be a nightmare. |
No, my first grader needs to be in his seat at 8:30. Why do you make assumptions that every school has the same schedule? |

My DH is a volunteer coach and has to do it around his time. One year it was 5:30 and another year 7:30z
