Why do the sports teams have to have such late practices

Why does your kids get up at 6am?

Not PP but some of us work and kids go to beforecare.

I'm a SAHM and it seems like a hard schedule to me too.

I am with you OP. I don't think you are blaming the coach and I'm sure you understand people work late and need dinner. My son would be exhausted and it messes with their sleep cycles or whatever to stay up late. Plus, exercising that late makes it all the more difficult to get to sleep for some kids, others it makes them more tired.

Baseball practices are long. But I agree, 8 is too late

Where is this?

Both of my sons (now in High School) are very good athletes. We did not let them play organized sports until 4th grade, and it did not hold them back at all. 1st grade is too young IMO for this. Practice until 8:00 for a 6 year old is ridiculous. Find a different team (that just has a game on the weekend), or wait at least until next year.

Well if she is a working mom than she would understand that coaches also work. Does she expect the coach to leave work early once a week to hold practice? Maybe she should go into work late once a week and let her kid sleep in once day after practice. If that is asking too much than she should understand the VOLUNTEER coach's issue with holding a practice at 4 and 5pm.

My husband has volunteered coached 3 different sports for over 10 years. I have volunteered coached one sport and Girl Scouts for 8 years. We have 3 kids so various sets of parents thru the years. Here are some of the complaints we get:

Why isn't practice at our home school after school. It makes it easier for us.
Why is practice during aftercare time? I want to be able to go.
Why is practice right after school? Kids need a break and snack. We can't do homework late
Why is practice during dinner time? We have to have family dinners
Why is practice not at our home school? I don't want to drive 5-10min further
Why is practice too late? My kid goes to bed at 7:30pm
Why is practice only 1 hour? It doesn't give me enough time to go food shopping
Why is practice an hour? Kids don't have that attention span
Why is practice at a field with no playground? What am I supposed to do with my younger child? Can my younger child practice too?

I mean we have heard it all. You will NEVER appease everyone. We put in 5 requests and the county decides our location and time. Most of the time it is not to the coach's benefit and we have had to move around our schedule to coach the kids. So either quit the team or suck it up and realize it is not that life altering. No one needs to hear the whining.

+1000. My husband has coached our kids in many sports for 20 years. Amazing what input people feel entitled to offer unpaid volunteer parent coaches. The absolute worst has to be parents who "suggest" which positions their kids should play.

Maybe that time is too late for some kids, but fine for others. Your kid won't be in first grade forever. Eventually he will be able to stay up later. Just find some other activity.
I don't get why people can't just decide that something doesn't work for them, and do something else instead. Why the sense of entitlement that these activities have to fit your schedule?
DD does an activity that she does multiple days a week. I avoided taking her to what I considered the best place to do this activity for a couple of years, because the schedule was too difficult to work uno a working parents' schedule. But as she got older, continued to excel and enjoy the activity, we decided she was mature and committed enough for it to be worth the effort to get her to the best facility. We wouldn't have messed up the family schedule to do that when she was 7.

Practice is until 8 pm? That us totally fine for first grade. 9 on is a reasonable bedtime for most first graders. If your kids schedule is an outlier, you can't expect the world to revolve around you.

Field shortages. Also, your elementary school child doesn't need to be at school until 9 a.m., right? Chill.

That is way too late for first graders. I think it is because this area is obsessed with scheduling kids for activities and not letting them relax, be little kids and get enough sleep.

I'd opt out for this year if I were you.
