Neighbor's dog poops in their yard

I just take note of who they are, and right before my evening walk around the neighborhood, I urinate into an old Gatorade plastic bottle, and when I get to the neighbors home that decided to let their dog pee in my yard, just pick an area that I believe is fair game, and empty my pee on their yard. Then we are even. One owner let their dog poop in my yard and didn't clean it. I just picked up the poop, boxed it, and fedexed it to the neighbor with a note saying that they forgot to clean their dogs defecation from my yard and that I'd appreciate it if they returned my overnight fedex cost. I was surprised that They did (probably let the dog pee on the cash, but whatever) and now I never see them walking in front of my house anymore. What they do in their own yard is their business. In my yard, don't touch my property.

Insane, but effective

It may be effective in getting neighbors to make sure their dogs don’t leave behind poop, and it is also effective in getting the neighbors to know you are a crazy SOB who nobody should associate with. Not the kind of neighbor I would want to have.

I think the fedexed poop part is pretty darn funny. But the peeing in bottles is really gross.

The people who owned our house before us run one of the dog rescues in the area. At some point, they had 17 dogs living in the garage. They apparently would let all of them out in the backyard to crap and never cleaned it up. We know this because the people behind us told us the stench was so awful that they couldn't use their lovely pool. So our one dog who has her poo cleaned every couple days (more when weather is nice) is not an issue at all.

Ya people are really pathetic. It's amazing how petty and sad many people must have to get angry over such small things.

As long as a dog owner picks up after their dog, I don't care if the dog takes a dump in my front yard. The rain will come by and rinse away any residue. I hate to break it to folks, but sh*t is a part of life. Do you all regularly go around and pick up rabbit and deer poo as well?

Stop being so damn anal and relax, learn to live a little.

This got to be a joke
If not, I do have a suggestion. We have a neighbor like you (HATES dogs) in our neighborhood EXCEPT she is very nice and polite lady. She has asked nicely not to let my dog walk on her grass and posted a small sign next to her mailbox. I always make sure that we avoid her yard on the walks. may be you should actually talk to people instead of peeing in containers?

We have a person on our block (lives in a large condo building) that bangs loudly on their patio windows whenever someone walks by with a dog. When we first moved in and I was walking our dog by that building, I heard the banging, stopped and looked around trying to find the source. All of a sudden the banging intensified but I still couldn't find the source. I looked down and noticed my dog was peeing on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the road. The banging didn't stop until my dog and I moved on. The next time I walked past, I heard the banging but didn't bother looking to see where it was coming from and it stopped when my dog and I continued walking.

In talking with neighbors, there is apparently a person in that building that doesn't want dogs walking by and doing their business. However, the banging is counter productive since a lot of newbies stop and look around for the source, like I did, giving the dogs time to go when they normally wouldn't have. Additionally, it pisses a lot of people off to have someone pounding on the windows at them for merely walking by so there is a whole cohort of people who take their dogs to that particular stip every morning to do their business since the window banger isn't up and at it yet.

I'm laughing at this question Op. You have never seen dog poop outside before? Where did you think the poop by the sidewalk was coming from? Hahaha. Come on.

Yes, dogs poop in their own backyards and their owners generally pick it up. That is much better than outside cats that poop in other people's yards and sometimes even use children's sandboxes as their own personal bathroom - Grooosss. Oh, and they spray too...yuck!

Weirdly enough I love cats. I just don't like outdoor cat potty habits.

If the dog poops, it should be cleaned up. If it's not that's disgusting. My inlaws do not clean up any poop in the yard and it makes the lawn useless. I can't let my toddler go back there to play in feces riddled grass! Sick.

This thread on PoPville was amazing. Wealthy couple lays down an astroturf lawn on a prominent corner, proceeds to allow their dogs to constantly crap on it and never pick up the poop. The entire corner stinks and starts attracting rats.

They got publicly shamed. The owners then enter the thread and defend themselves. Hilarity ensues.

Hooooooleeeeeeeeeshiiiiiiiit that is nasty. I love how that was clearly weeks and weeks worth of crap and the owner was insistent they don't pick up "every single day." Lady, you don't pick up ever!

It is rude and selfish to let your dog poop in someone else's yard.

Poop on your own property or in common areas. Not on private property. That is rude and selfish and being a terrible neighbor.

Is it normal for people to let their dogs run around in the back yard and poop all over the place (on their property)?

They have a nice big back yard, about 0.25 acres of grass, and it has a short wrought iron fence around it so the dog should not get into our yard.

Does this just seem weird because I didn't grow up with pets?

As in planet Earth? Where do you THINK a dog should do it's business?

Waaait...someone in a million dollar DC home covered their yard with bright green plastic astroturf?!?! For real???

And then they covered THAT with piles of rotting dog poop?

Whoa! That is crazy!

What happens when it rains on that corner?

It was absolutely disgusting. I frequently passed by this area and saw the poop with my own eyes.
The public shaming actually worked - it's no longer a problem.

It is actually called a "SynLawn" and looks pretty nice, IMHO. I think the owners said it cost $8K to get it installed.
That said, during the rain the poop would leech into the SynLawn, the ground, and run-off down to the sidewalk. Totally disgusting.
