I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he erred rather than lied, as this is the kind of "battery" that almost certainly happens daily on the campaign trail given the crowding and jostling, etc., and I could see it being forgotten soon after it occurred. He certainly needs to explain himself given the video, however, and he does sound like kind of a jerk, and not in the fun way that Mr. Trump sometimes does. But, in any event, I have utter confidence in the courts of the State of Florida to sort though the facts and do justice in connection with this heinous crime. Let justice be done, though the heavens fall! (Would that such crimes were as aggressively prosecuted here in the District; I've been subject to such criminal battery often on the metro myself. lol) |
I would say ordinarily if you identify your "attacker" on the metro, then if you report it to the police, something might happen, especially if they publicly call you deranged and a liar. In today's atmosphere of danger and crime on the metro, then yes, I think metro police and MPD would take you very seriously. |
Really? If someone grabbed your arm on the Metro to move you out of the way and you reported it, they would laugh at you. They take real criminal assaults very lightly. |
My own take is that Lewandowki was a jerk for doing it; Fields was a jerk for filing a criminal complaint over such a minor incident; the prosecutors in Florida are exercising very poor judgment in commencing a criminal case over such a minor incident; the media is being very silly and blowing this kerfuffle way out of proportion; and public opinion on Trump will not be changed one iota: the #NeverTrump people will have one more reason to be anti-Trump---as if there weren't already a legion of such reasons---and people who are Trump supporters or merely Trump-curious will view this as a trivial and inconsequential incident. I have no dog in this fight, myself, other than wishing that "de minimis not curat lex" was a maxim that was accorded more respect than it often seems to be. |
You pretty much nailed it. Much ado about nothing. There will be no discussion of issues this fall - just more nonsense and faux outrage like this from both sides. |
Actually it is probably from the RNC's secret memo since THEY are the ones that most want Trump out of the race. LOL |
| If you bruise someone, they are going to charge you. |
|
Do people have their heads so far up Trump's arse that they condoning the incident and the way it was handled?
Even if the grabbing was an "accident," you defuse this whole situation by apologizing. "I sincerely apologize for the incident. It was inadvertent. She is a fine reporter." Done. Problem resolved. But by doubling down, calling the woman derogatory names and such gave the issue legs. Folks can blames anti-Trumps and MSM all they want. Trump's camp fumbled this ball. And Trump, as the candidate, should have instructed his person to apologize so that we can move on and focus on bigger issues. You know, he should have been Presidential and diplomatic. |
| This was no assault, I saw the video. She was going right up to Trump and he tried to stop her. She is pathetic to file a criminal report, what a hack. |
I saw the video. He grabbed her and moved her back a foot. I grab my toddler's arm and move him a foot all the time but don't leave a bruise. Lewandowski grabbed her so roughly he left a bruise, which is apparently his usual manner of interaction with people. If he cannot keep from leaving bruises when touching people, then he has a problem. Beyond the actual incident was his response, the response of Breitbart, and Trump. She wasn't wrong to file a police report. |
He was charged with battery, not assault. Florida statutes: 784.03?Battery; felony battery.— (1)(a)?The offense of battery occurs when a person: 1.?Actually and intentionally touches or strikes another person against the will of the other; or 2.?Intentionally causes bodily harm to another person. (b)?Except as provided in subsection (2), a person who commits battery commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. (2)?A person who has one prior conviction for battery, aggravated battery, or felony battery and who commits any second or subsequent battery commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. For purposes of this subsection, “conviction” means a determination of guilt that is the result of a plea or a trial, regardless of whether adjudication is withheld or a plea of nolo contendere is entered. |
You've often had people grab your arm so hard that they left bruises or something similar? |
Count me in, too. |
| Breitbart sided with the Trump campaign over their own reporter Michelle Fields. Fields then resigned since they didn't stand by her. Apparently this is a history with this woman. Piers Morgan tweeted that Field needs to toughen up, lol. |
| This reporter, Fields, is looking for fame. She was in no way "almost thrown to the ground". I don't know about the bruising part, but I find it hard to believe that this Trump guy (doesn't look that big or strong) could do much damage by grabbing her arm. He follows Trump around in the crowds. It is reasonably to me that he doesn't remember every single person he interacts with on the rope line. It looks like a lot of pushing and shoving is the norm. The hysteria in the media over this is a joke. There are a lot of arguments to oppose Trump, this isn't one of them. |
