Has anyone else been paying attention to the Breitbart soap opera? I'm ashamed at how much I'm enjoying it. For those who haven't followed developments, here is a recap:
1) Following a Trump rally, Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields started asking Trump a question as he was passing through a crowd of reporters and photographers; 2) Fields was roughly pulled from behind by her arm, almost falling to the ground and ending up with a bruised arm; 3) Fields believed her assailant was Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and that was confirmed by Washington Post reporter Ben Terris who witnessed it; 4) Lewandowski denied that he had touched Fields, called her "deranged", and said he had never even met her; 5) Breitbart's editor asked Trump's campaign for an apology but Trump himself denied anything had happened Fields; 6) The Daily Beast (or maybe the Daily Caller, one of them) published a leak that Lewandowski had told the Breitbart editor he was sorry for roughing up Fields but he didn't recognize her and thought he was from the mainstream media (both Lewandowski and the editor deny this); 7) Brietbart folks began both defending and questing Field's account and eventually Breitbart published an article accusing Terris of the Post of misidentifying Lewandowski (Terris stands by his identification); 8) Brietbart based it's claims on video showing Lewandowski on the opposite side of Trump from Fields, but video has emerged showing Lewandowski moving behind Trump and reaching his arm toward Fields, providing video support if not complete proof of her claims; 9) An audio recording of Terris and Fields just after her assault supports their claims that it was Lewandowski; 10) The PR person for Breitbart resigned due to the lack of support for Fields and claimed that Breitbart was in the bag for Trump; 11) Fields filed a criminal complaint against Lewandowski; 12) Fields and Breitbart report Ben Shapiro both resigned in protest with Shapiro saying that Breitbart had been turned into "Trump's personal Pravda"; 13) A leaked email showed the Brietbart editor had been pursuing a job as a speech writer with Trump's campaign; 14) After Fields and Shapiro resigned, Breitbart published an article ridiculing Shapiro; 15) The article was published under a pseudonym used by Shapiro's father and revealed the Shaprio's father's true identity; 16) The article was removed and replaced with an "Editor's note" saying that a staffer had inappropriately published the article (the "staffer" and the "editor" are one and the same); 17) Shapiro's father also resigned from Breitbart and more resignations are expected. |

I'm looking forward to her essay exploring her cognitive dissonance in a more credible publication.
I realize that Trump can credential anyone it wants, but I'm appalled that Breitbart would be considered "news" by anyone. None of this is surprising to me. It's very amusing how these conservative rags like to play at journalism. They're so ham-handed, clumsy, and hilarious. I don't mean to pile on the girl, but is she really shocked at the misogynistic treatment from these people? |
I was describing to my husband what I'd seen on megym Kelly's show, all about this issue, and I realize now she might be single handedly keeping this in the attentionsphere of the Fox audience. |

I've been watching since the spokesman quit
I don't know if I'm more horrified by the actions of the "editors" at Breitbart or relieved that some people are calling them out on this fiasco |
| Yes, it is quite something. |
d Sounds like a confusing situation. Trump has been under organized attack by the left and are protecting Trump. Breitbart tried to do due diligence by investigating imagine if NYT and Rolling Stone followed similar policy). Breitbart did not have the vid that later came out. There is no vid showing the entire incident so it was he said, she said. Shapiro and Breitbart have long had differences so that part does not surprise me. I think the real story here is that there needs to be hyper vigilance re: Trump's protection due to leftist organizations and activists organizing to not only protest, but to physically cause trouble. |
| ^^^security and campaign individuals are protecting Trump |
Yes to all of this. |
It was a Breitbart reporter who said she was assaulted/handled roughly, and Brietbart first vacillated, then said she made it up. They protected Trump at the expense of their own reporter, not a leftist organization. |
What happened cannot be excused by any perceived threats of leftists. She is a reporter known to them. As for Breitbart, they can't afford to lose the Trump audience. |
|
Since when is Breitbart a "leftist" organization?
Anyone who thinks Breitbart is leftist is unhinged. |
I am pretty sure that the poster was not suggesting that Breitbart is a leftist organization, rather that because evil leftists are determined to attack Trump, it justifies assaulting reporters. So, it is not Cory Lewandowski's fault that he assaulted Michelle Fields, but rather the fault of BernieBros, or something. |
The entire Trump campaign, from platform to behavior, can be summed up by "It's the fault of (insert scapegoat here), or something." |
Good explanation by Jeff above. But there's also a poster here who thinks Tim McVeigh is a leftist. Perhaps the same deluded person? |
| I have been through several bowls of popcorn on this already. About to get the Thin Mints out of the freezer. |
