| I opened a bag of chopped salad and it smelled like rotting garbage 7 days away from expiration date. The greens looked fine, but there was some bacterial activity in there that was no good. I got rid of it. |
| I have incurred that nasty smell/taste on a few occasions, including a turkey burger at a restaurant. I have concluded that you should buy the turkey burger and then use it the same day to solve the problem. |
| No. Cooking some purchased last night right now...the stuff smells so disgusting. I live on turkey and never have been so repulsed. Going back to GIANT Food for a refund.. |
| Jennie-O ground turkey in the 2lb roll smells awful. Not sure what they do to it and don't know if any of their other turkey products are also about the same. My son came down from two floors up and wanted to know what the "awful" smell was.... I won't say what he claimed it smelled like to him. I use ground turkey all the time but liked the $5 price for 2lb. Never again. |

Argh, this happened tonight to us. 2 different packages of Jeanie-O Turkey. So surprised there were answers to "why does my turkey smell like wet dog" hahahaha.
Yes, I threw out a huge pot of chili as I couldn't get past that smell/taste. |
| I stopped buying Shadybrooke turkey, it had that strong smell on 2 or 3 different times. I thought it would go away when it was cooked, but it didn't. So gross. Now I just buy the Purdue ground turkey - so far so good |
| I have had this experience with Aldis ground turkey. |
Plus 1 !!!!!!!! |
this is exactly what I did, but then it eventually happened with the Purdue. I called Purdue and got a refund, but now I am afraid to buy turkey!! |
| This has happened to me. It’s not a smell indicating it’s gone bad, more of a chemical smell. |
Yes. I can’t feel the vomit rising in my throat as I read this thread. I would not have eaten it. |
| I ate bad turkey one time. My whole family got sick. I have never eaten ground turkey again. Take my advice, if it smells odd throw it out. |
|
I have especially noticed this on Shady Brook brand turkey products. Not a spoiled smell, per se, just very unpleasant, gamey, strong smell and flavor. There may be other brands like that too, but I especially noticed this brand.

Ask yourself: for the price of this turkey, would I volunteer to be sick as a dog?
"When in doubt, throw it out." |
