If you could spend a long weekend in Europe without kids where would you go?

There are a lot of great suggestions here but I did a couple of short European trips when I was young and it is really physically tough so to minimize your exhaustion I'd pick something in Western Europe that you can reach non-stop so you have 1 flight and you are done travelling - that means London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and maybe Dublin or Madrid.

There are non-stops to Vienna and Munich but it is further but connecting to Prague, Athens, Istanbul etc will add another 3-4 hours to your travel time and I would not then add driving on to that.

I think Amsterdam is the best of the suggestions so far but think you will find great stuff to do in any of the suggested cities.

Amsterdam poster is spot on. Mid April is a great time to visit and see the tulips. We did it 2 years ago.

April? Italy, the weather is better. Rome is my favorite and all that museuming would be better without kids. But Cinque Terre was gorgeous when we were there in early April, and Naples/Amalfi Coast/Capri would be another good bet.

You know how you see a picture of a gorgeous island with lovely turquoise-emerald water and it's always Sardinia?
