Unless things have changed drastically in the last few years, UNC would be a reach, as well. It's very difficult to get into from out of state. |
No, and not Chicago either. |
Why is it confusing? |
It's a 3.3 in the context of magnet and a lot of AP classes. For small schools especially, that matters a lot. Also, his SAT scores are very good. |
My guess OP. UMCP - 50/50 chance but no merit (SAT is in mid 50% range but GPA is too low for UMCP. Incoming class wGPA was 4.22 using MCPS system) UNC - far reach USC - yes, maybe some merit Colorado - yes, maybe some merit |

OP's son is in a magnet and has virtually identical stats to what my MCPS magnet child has. Mine was accepted to UMCP and tells me that he doesn't know anyone in the magnet who was rejected. I think OP's child has a better than 50/50 chance at UMDCP. |
| You have Naviance if you are in MCPS. Use it. If your child is interested in a college that shows that yearly 2-3 students are accepted fro his hs, than measure him against the kids that you know have applied - is he in the top 2-3? The # of accepted students from your hs is pretty stable. There may be some fluctuation for athletes, minorities, legacy or a female applying for engineering or male applying at a LAC, but overall Naviance can give you some useful data. |
