Yes...they went and I am at work again! Hooray for DCPS! I think they made the exact right call.

I'm a teacher in DC. My kid went. I didn't.

How come?

I walked 5 blocks in my mostly unplowed neighborhood to the nearest snow detour stop for my bus, got there at 6:45, and stood there for an hour. No bus. I walked home. Screw it.

That sounds hellish.

You have been paid to do no work the last 3 days and you could not spring for a cab or Uber Pool?

I did a ton of work the past three days. And no, I can't afford it.

My five min walk with my child in CP was terrifying. The big offenders were McDonalds and DC. DC did not shovel side walks by parks and utilities forcing people to play in traffic on busy Van Ness. Yes, we will be ubering or finding another way to get in tomorrow..especially if there is the predicted ice. It was really scary.

Sorry you endured that. I'm wondering though we're there cabs, or are you in a remote part of DC

I was in Glover Park and no cabs cruise there. There's still a $15 snow surcharge in addition to the fare. So if I had been able to procure a cab, it would have cost about $35. I just can't afford that.

Uber isn't on surge at all.

Two of my kids took Metro to school. They left a bit early and made it to school on time. I walked a bit less than a mile with my 7 year old to his school and it was fine. Sidewalks had been shoveled thoughout the residential neighborhood and while there were piles of snow at some intersections, they certainly weren't insurmountable. We got to school 15 minutes early, I walked home and was back before 9.

Holy crap. Why do you assume that you know anything about someone's financial situation? This comment is disgusting.

I've never used Uber.

Maybe it is time! Even on Saturday, it was only a 2X surge, so I paid $13 for a ride home from the hill a mile and a half away after my daughter peed in her snow suit. Well worth it!
