Are your kids going to school on Wednesday?

Not the PP you're snarking at, but I suspect the lesson she's showing her kids is that she values their lives and safety. You've chosen the lesson of not valuing children's lives and safety.

Have fun with that.

Nope. We did a dry run on the school route yesterday together and determined it was safe. I'm teaching my kids not to depend on anyone except themselves and especially not the government. I realize this a foreign concept in DC.

The sidewalks between our house and the school (about 1 mi away) are a mess, and I'm not pushing my toddler's stroller down the middle of the street. I'm sure my little Larlo (who us currently in K) will still attend Harvard even if he misses a.few days of school this week.

Some seriously wimpy people on this thread!

So when I walked with my daughter to school this morning, I was showing her I didn't value her life? Got it.

Nope. Seriously smart. My priorities about the return to school are based on safety and logistics, and neither of those are where they currently need to be.

I'm about to go back some cookies with DS, and later we're going to build a snowdog to keep our snowman company. But you enjoy your day at the office.

Glad you don't NEED to work today and can afford the luxury of staying home. Congratulations.

I'm a teacher and live right in DC. I TRIED to get to work this morning. I don't have a car and my only option was Metrobus. I walked 5 blocks in my mostly unplowed neighborhood to the nearest snow detour stop for my bus, got there at 6:45, and stood there for an hour. No bus. I walked home. Screw it.

Things looked smooth at our EOTP DCPS. Turnout looked somewhat lighter than usual, but a good number of kids and teachers.

I just got a call from my school, because my kid slipped and fell in a wet gym. There is no nurse on duty so they have to call me. WTF.

Yes, my kids both went to school and were driven. I think DCPS made a bad call, it's really unsafe for the walkers out there.

Sorry you endured that. I'm wondering though we're there cabs, or are you in a remote part of DC

I was in Glover Park and no cabs cruise there. There's still a $15 snow surcharge in addition to the fare. So if I had been able to procure a cab, it would have cost about $35. I just can't afford that.

Yes. Walked to school. Conditions fine. Had to climb a snowbank or two, but no big deal.

+1 Same for me. Left the house early, and got to school early and there were already 200 kids there and I recognized a lot of the regular teachers. It was fine. For those who want to send their kids to school in DC, the option is there. For those who don't feel safe, can keep them home. Win-win situation.
