. Do you have the same issue with AAs who straighten their hair? That looks no less ridiculous.

There are AA with naturally straightly straight hair. No one naturally has dreads.

But the question is do you feel the same about AA that straighten their hair? What about AA that use real hair wigs or extensions that come from the head of another race? Is this cultural appropriation?

No it isn't, and numerous posters have already explained why, and the history of Black women and why we straighten our hair. Why are you so eager to ignore actual history and instead paint Black women as "appropriating''?

So AA women who straighten their hair look "ridiculous" to you, but AA who wear locs or other natural styles look dirty or unkempt, according to this thread.

Again, we're damned if we do, damned if we don't ...

AA with locs here, I don't care about white people sporting dreadlocks. They seem to be on an entirely different planet than most of us and to them, it feels natural and right, so you know, let them be free.

And I'll be honest, it is the one style that I don't think society really respects on White people, while Blacks can definitely can be respected, hold prestigious jobs etc, while sporting locs. An AA Oncologist I know has locs, I'm not certain a White person could get away with that.

I do have issues with Whites wearing other styles, such as cornrows and box braids, but that's an entirely different discussion, and one I wouldn't dare participate in on DCUM.

I'm AA I have Locs and don't care what others think about it. I wash and style my hair regularly and always get compliments.

Not concerned with how whites wear their hair.

African hair is tightly coiled and Locs without a lot of manipulation. It's worse to use heat (damaging) and acidic chemicals to make it straight.

Are you in the DC area? Do you maintain them yourself, or do you go to a salon?

I also get a lot of compliments on my hair, and White people always want to touch them.

My niece has had dreadlocks for months. Not only do they look dirty, her hair smells mouldy. GROSS, no matter who is wearing them.

The real solution is to shave our heads like the badasses that we really are.

I've considered it.

But my face is too round and looks chubby.

I think she is hot, but I like dreads on most people.

Wait, who are these blacks with naturally straight hair! I seriously don't believe this.
