| I just wrote to Grosso and Cheh ( I am Ward 3). Thanks for the suggestion. |
Cheh's office replied to my email!... |
| If DCPS doesn't care to get rid of Chartwells, then what makes anyone think it can be done? They clearly don't care that a contractor is continually stealing money from the DCPS budget. Makes you wonder how much money they're giving away to other contractors. |
Evans office did not reply to mine :-0 |
And Jack Evans is arguably the most successful elected official in the city's history. He must know a thing or two about politics. It's not quite right to say he doesn't care about schools -- he actually doesn't believe in public education, and isn't afraid to say so. For years part of his stump speech was that the town he came from in Pennsylvania was bankrupted by its school board. His electoral success speaks volumes of the relative importance of public education in DC politics. |
| Jack Evans daughter went to Deal with my daughter or was that Phil? |
Evans' three kids all went private. |

I'm the original poster who wrote to Evans and also didn't get a response. I wrote to him because I'm in ward 2. This will certainly weigh against him
In my view the next time I vote. |

Well that escalated quickly. Chartwells just quit on the contract renewal. Now DCPS has to find a food vendor for 45,000 students in 5 weeks. I think this is good news overall because Chartwells seemed awful. But the timing has to be tough from DCPS' perspective.

| Wow. This should be interesting. |
Well then, we'll see if there was any truth whatsoever to DCPS's assertion it would be impossible to replace Chartwells in time to start the new year (I was skeptical from the beginning). The answer will be revealing, or expensive, or maybe both. |
Sorry if this gets edited by Jeff, and pardon my French, but fuck Chartwells: https://twitter.com/willsommer/status/621012702203355136 "Recently it has become clear to us that we are no longer a valued partner to DCPS..." You serve spoiled, horrible food, overcharge by tens of millions of dollars, and then act put out? |
I wonder if they mean that ... i.e., DCPS actually said something to them. I mean, I shocked that a few whining CM's made them change their minds. I wonder what their game is here, and if they think DC will come crawling back to them. |
| good riddance to Chartwells. I hope other cities see how they defrauded DC government and cancel them as well. getting a new vendor in 5 weeks will be messy, but I predict that the outcomes for our kids couldn't be worse than the status quo. |
|
Worse possible outcome for DCPS procurement office, they will have to work during the summer. They were ready to confirm Chartwells' contract to avoid this..
BTW, what about my residual credit of $8 on my son's account? |
