Are you putting baby's name on his/her nursery wall?

Wait, so you don't tell people to "Eat" "Laugh" "Live" in your kitchen? How do they know what do do?

Haaaaaaaate this. Also, "SLEEP" or "DREAM" in the bedroom. It's like your wall is issuing commands.

How is putting your baby's name on the nursery wall a "trend"?

I did it and my kid is turning 13 soon. My sister did it and her son graduates high school next year. Another friend had her kid's name on the nursery wall and he just graduated college.

None of us teen moms or rednecks.

This type of decor has been around for way too long to be a trend. It is sweet. Nursery's are supposed to be sweet. Not spartan, urban industrial, modern, minimalistic, cold or any of the other trends that come and pass.

Go for it OP. Your kid will likely recognize her name far earlier than most kids because she will see it every day from her cirb.

You know, whether wooden letters, paper mache, or decal - I think it's all about the overall look of the room. Less is more, in my opinion. If that's your one focal point, I think it's fine. If you also have a big mural on one wall, or lots of photos, or lots of little stuffed animals - it's going to look tacky.

On the decals, be sure to get the matte vinyl, not glossy. Definitely looks classier. And if your walls have any texture to them, forget it - the decals show the texture and look awful. Not sure what is common around DC - Midwest we always had smooth walls but now that we live in TX, it is ALL textured walls, even in very high end homes. It is just a regional difference. Took me a long time to adjust, they are harder to paint and repair, although they do hide imperfections better.

That is your opinion, not a fact. Sweet is not really my taste or aesthetic. I'm the one that has to look at it at 2 AM, why not follow my style? And I want it to flow with the rest of the house too.

::snort:: YES. God. ::puke::

I think I just found one that takes the cake: "you will forever be my always"

Err, what?

I like this "trend". I have an usual name and growing up, I loved seeing my name in any type of "print" since it was never a name you would find on a key chain at the mall. For me, as a FTM, I'm doing it because it's so cool to me to have a name for my own child, and I want to see it displayed. That's not to say it will be there forever and I'm not going crazy with it but it makes it feel more official to me.

+1. I love our colorful modern nursery. You can keep your matching pink and brown princess-themed one.

God - people are kind of nasty..It's tacky? or cute...and temporary, as your "baby" will soon be a bigger kid and likely want something different.

People can decorate their nurseries however they like. You're not going to be hanging out in my nursery so I couldn't care less if you think it's tacky or classy.

People will say all kinds of rude things about names before the baby is born, trying to change your mind. Even if you don't change your mind, those things people say can sometimes taint the name a bit for you. They are much less likely to say rude things once the baby is here and formally named.

And it avoids in-fighting, especially when naming after family -- why are you naming after their side and not MY side. Blah, no thanks.

Well, you can agree with your husband or partner in advance on a rule that says "no family names".

Easier in some cultures than in others, I know.

I think it's one of the things couples should discuss before they start TTC.

Yes, of course they can. The PP asked what people think of decals though. Sorry for responding? Sorry not sorry.

Seems weird to me to put it up before the baby is born. An empty room with a name on its wall for an unborn baby? Creeps me out a bit.

Lol at someone living in Texas giving advice on what's classy.

Yes, the whole state is just filled with Texas flags and cowhides and longhorn skulls. It's the law that you must decorate your home that way. Who is the close-minded one?
