Who applies to GDS? I don't know anyone that applied there?

GDS wanted to level the playing field by using first names. I must admit that I am simplifying a really important issue but for me... children calling adults by their first names is not about the history.

FWIW I am Black. I applaud GDS for taking that issue head on and creating an environment where everyone is viewed as an equal. As I said, I am just old-fashioned. Sorry!!!

Memo to GDS: Children and Adults are not "equal." Only in this little corner of Georgetown is that considered acceptable.

GDS is not in Georgetown.

I had no problem with the first name thing-- my kids now go to a different school which is also first names. My problem with GDS was the self-rightousness.

I am not a fan of GDS but when my daughter looked at high schools recently we were pleasantly surprised. Not the right fit for her but still a lovely school for many (or at least the many who are the chosen few). For those commenting on the AD you have to remember that the AD does not necessarily embody the school and you will have almost no contact with that person once you are done with the admissions process so it is important to try to look past that. We had a good experience with the US admissions director.

"The many that are the chosen few?" What does this mean, exactly? Perhaps there is not more to this statement. If so, please elaborate!

Maybe the PP just meant, in the scheme of the world, only a few go there....but it's good for many of them.
