Tell DCPS to start school 8/31 or after

This thread epitomizes how decisions should not be made. You have a whole lot of people confusing anecdote with evidence. Just because your kids [insert: anxious to return to school/want more vacation] is largely irrelevant.

Schools in the northeast start after Labor Day---that's not to say right or wrong, but I would bet on the OP being from there.

They are scheduled to start school 2 weeks before Labor Day when most other school districts in the country start after Labor Day.

I'm with you. DCPS should do exactly what the other school districts do. Like you, I can't understand what is so difficult about DCPS consulting the numerous other school districts in the nation before they make their calendar. I have a friend who works in Boston Public Schools, and she told me that their BPS coordinates with Seattle Public Schools on developing their calendar.

Why does this make sense? Please help me to understand how coordinating our calendar with a school district on the other side of the country would be helpful?
