Seton crew has a lot of minorities. Holton has a few, so does Blair, and GDS has a couple, and.... WJ has some, and Bryn Mawr.... |
When you miss practice it means the whole boat misses practice. |
forgot Wilson.. |
With my son missing practice they still had 4 rowers who did not row that day. The boat went out even though my son missed. They have 5 extra rowers every day. |
Yes, because every single African American at a private school is on financial aid. |
Private schools will tend to subsidize a student's participation if the student gets financial aid. |
Where did you hear that? |
Yes, because every single African American at a private school is on financial aid...and every single white is a Nazi-like racist.
|
Those regattas look lily lily lily lily white. "Consider the Lilies of the Field, they toil not, because their parents can afford fees for them to row crew." Yes, some schools offer financial aid but since crew is generally a club run by parents, people have to have other parents decide about their financial aid. Not surprisingly that's not attractive to many parents. |
I will be blunt. Here are some scenarios: 1. Maybe the coach believes your son lied about sending a text "to the wrong number." Maybe your child did lie about this. 2. Maybe the coach believes that a text of a few lines is not a responsible reaction to oversleeping and missing practice. Maybe the coach thinks your child could have emailed, or tried to set up a time to apologize and explain afterwards. 3. Maybe your kid sulked when he got moved out of the first boat and the coaching staff believes that he doesn't have the attitude for a team sport like crew. 4. Maybe your kid isn't that great and this was the tipping point in moving him out of the first boat. 5. Maybe absenteeism from practice was on the rise and your son was the unfortunately snoozing straw that broke the camel's back. And maybe it's exactly as you described it. But most likely your version is missing something -- it's hard to be objective about your own kid, and that's understandable, and after all you aren't the one in the boat so you don't actually know how your child interacts at all times. |
I will end it with this
1. The text was copied to the coach to prove the text went to a former coach. Honest mistake 2.They have to text to let the coach know if they are not showing up. 3.No sulking just ran as he was told. Not son's personality Taught by nuns/priests so he knows how to handle authority and be respectful. 4.He's the only rower who rowed summer and fall, so the only one who came in with experience. But you might be right the others may be naturals. The boats are not done by erg times. Son had the most consistent erg time this winter. But you may be right he might not be that great. 5. A fellow rower was not there on Friday but was allowed to row this weekend after they told another rower he wld be rowing in his spot. No warning just didn't call out his name in the lineups no explanation to the rower. Thanks for being blunt hopefully next week the tide will change. Here's to an oar in the water next weekend ![]() |
Is a private or public HS, and is it a club sport? I'm real curios to know. DS is club, and this would never happen there for one miss. DD is also a COX, and the coach and her normally stay in touch daily. |
Fair enough. Might just be a super, super strict coach. I have never liked the silent treatment toward students and/or athletes and hope that all will be well again soon. Fair winds and following seas. |
If the coach is being as unfair as this sounds I would assume s/he didn't like my kid. In a personality conflict kind of way. Which means your kid could spend a lot of energy trying to atone and change things - and it may work (or not). So you have to finish the season and then decide what to do. |
Thanks, believe me I just wish they wld give him an explanation. Don't like the head games as school already has enough pressure and it's a private school. Looking at club if things don't change. Don't want to lose the love of the sport. Was trying to get the feel if this was the norm for other programs. |
