Wayside Elementary

Anonymous
OP, here were your questions:

1. I am wondering if there is the chance that any parents on here have children at Wayside Elementary school in Potomac.

2. I know it ranked 12th out of 800 + schools recently and that its not over crowded.

3. If anyone can give me specific feedback, from the POV of a parent with a child currently enrolled, I'd be really glad to hear it.

The answer to question #2 includes wealth. If you don't include wealth in the answer to question #2, the answer is incomplete and misleading.

(Actually, the answer to question #1 also includes wealth. Chances are good that there are people on DCUM with a child at Wayside. Chances are slim that there are people on DCUM with a child at a very high-poverty school in Montgomery County Public Schools, such as New Hampshire Estates ES.)

I am not pretending anything but I am tired of seeing folks get their underwear in a twist over and over without telling me anything new. Its endemic to the whole of DCUM, frankly.

And to the poster who broke my question down to 3 bullet points. You seriously need an education. The "question" is only in your part 3, the first two parts were my observations.

I will visit the school and see for myself.

That is a good idea -- unlike asking anonymous posters on an Internet message board where you already know that people don't give you the answers you're looking for.

I am not looking for specific answers - just balanced views. A rant back and forth for several pages about the semiotics of the word "wealth" is a waste of time wherever it takes place.

OP, you are a waste of time.

10:22, not the PP, but you seem really defensive and bitchy. As a Wayside parent, I hope you don't come to our school - we don't want you.

Another well intentioned thread turned sour. DCUM is full of posters who hate rich people. If you don't like us, then don't click on threads about schools in wealthy neighborhoods.

OP, I posted earlier about how much I loved Wayside for both of my children. Yes, some may consider me "wealthy." We are not bad people. Good luck with your decision. You will probably be better off here than in the neighborhoods where these trolls live.

Nobody has said anything about hating rich people.

True, the word hate was not used...however the implication has been that it is a negative aspect of the school. My impression is that many of those posters have an issue with rich people...hate is probably too strong of a word, I agree.

Its time for you to change your MO - there is a distinct pattern in your trolling and its become very obvious.

Chiming in as a former Wayside parent. The actual parents who replied have given you a good perspective -- there is a lot of diversity at the school which I liked. I believe Mrs. M. is the current principal and I really liked her when she was the assistant principal years ago. One thing I will warn you about: it is hard to visit the school. I remember when we moved to the area I tried to visit before school started so my kids could see the school and I couldn't get in for various reasons. Also, I was often in the office (for PTA reasons) when the receptionists would get calls from prospective families and they just could not accommodate every request. Again, this was several years ago and there may be a different policy in place now but I don't want you to get a bad impression of the school if you can't visit. I was a little worried about sending my kids the first day without a visit (they were young and one has special needs). But I have to tell you that in the years we were there the office staff went so above and beyond to take care of my kids (and they did that for every kid). Since they spend so much time focusing on their students, they didn't have time for a lot of extras (which you will appreciate as a parent). I'd also encourage you to reach out to the PTA president (I believe the PTA has its own website) to ask any additional questions you have.

It is not a negative aspect of the school, or a positive one. It is simply a fact.

Don't worry. A tour has been set up. I tend to avoid PTAs completely, though I completely understand their usefulness.

You don't believe in PTAs, OP??? Way to be a team player.
