Walking while black

The story was about RACE. If it is significant that his son was Black, it is also significant that the cop was Black.

Show me where Blow makes it about race. Sure, it can be implied because he is AA. Seems to me that he could be just as easily talking about heavy handed policing.

Where does Blow not make it about race? Look at his list of columns. That's what he writes about almost all the time.

F-ing people of color that always want to be the victim. I'm white. In my early 20's I was the victim of mistaken identity in Idaho. Several cops transcended on my, all with guns drawn. They asked no questions. I was shackled and thrown in the back of a patrol car. I was kept up all night in interrogation
Fact, More whites are arrested and shot by cops than any other racial group.
The bunch of cry babies need to get over it. Stop acting like a criminal with your hoodies and tough boy demeaner.

Sounds like you are the one crying victim.

Please don't even try to say that it is, because the "walking while black" is a real problem for other non-Yale students. Trying to equate this lame story with "walking while black" trivializes the entire issue, and creates a strawman that deniers can easily knock over.

To the PP who said his white son was stopped similarly for playing "hide and seek", I have a question. Was your son on someone else's property?

+1. That NYT column was a joke. The same thing happens to people of all races (and I know because it happened to me, and I am not black). The real root of the problem no one talks about is, why do statistics show that blacks are as a group, much more likely to commit violent crimes? Half of all murders in the US are committed by blacks, which account for only 10% of the population.

Let's solve that first.

The "statistics" also show some interesting trends about three things that Whites like to harp on whenever AA's mention racism.

Black on Black violent crime has actually decreased over the past 5 years according to the stats.

Teen pregnancies among AA teens is down significantly from 5 years ago.

The college matirculation rate among AA's is the highest that it has ever been.

So....the things that White conservatives complain are the ills of the "AA Community" (whatever that is) ARE tredning in a positive way.

The quality of the discourse on this board makes me sad. One guy makes a red herring comment and another one gives it a +1.

Another PP here, but the "discourse" on issues of racism and sexism have been "sad" on this board for a long time. IMO, it stems from the fact that people on both sides either speak in widely accepted but never vierfied "talking points" or they tend to discount the other's persons POV because they have not experieced it (or have a different experience). Everybody wants to talk but no one wants to listen.

Evidence: in the most recent year with detailed stats (2011)...

Blacks committed 5,486 murders

Whites committed 4,739 murders

This, despite the obvious fact that the white population is much larger.

The conversation starts there. The rest are attempts to distract from that sad but real fact.

Lets not obfuscate the issue with facts. This doesn't help with the finger pointing.

The conversation only starts there if you think that it is being black that makes one a murderer. How else are the murderers in the population different from the others? SES, perhaps?
