Not all are taught to support Israel from a young age. Very strange post. |
I'm married to a Jew, and neither of us was blindly raised to support Israel. The reality is that the majority of Americans didn't give a shit about what went on in the Middle East 9-11...then folks thought about it for a while. But everyone goes back to living their own lives and really doesn't think about foreign affairs unless they have a relative in the military or relatives living in the affected countries. My Jewish mother-in-law and I are in complete agreement that both Israel and the Palestinians have blood on their hands (I'm catholic). We both follow international news closely, fwiw. So I think it's truly bizarre for anyone to believe that Americans are raised to blindly support Israel when the reality is that most Americans couldn't care less what happens over there. |
It doesn't speak well of people who don't care about international issues. Kind of an old timey Republican isolationist view. |
Well that's the reality in America, pp. Have you traveled to flyover country much and spoken with the residents? Or Florida? Florida and Texas are the worst in terms of people who exclusively rely on Fox News tidbits.
Sad but true: very few people (comparatively speaking) bother to read actual newspapers (domestic and foreign) to keep up with foreign affairs. They don't care. |
Except for Jordan, I have no sympathy with any of the Arab middle eastern states. F-'em. |
That includes Turkey also, although they are not "Arab." Their PM turned president turned quasi dictator is putting a once great nation on the road to ruin. |
You sound like a real partner for peace. |
I really wish Israel would just go away. It is such a brutally and amoral country. |
If these criteria were applied worldwide, there would be a lot fewer countries in the world. For all its faults -- and there are many -- Israel is not even the most brutal and amoral country in the region, let alone the world. |
+1 Israel deserves criticism, but demonizing them in this way is uncalled for. |
I don't wish Israel would go away but I do wish the US would not turn a blind eye to some of the more outrageous things that Israel does ranging from its brutal treatment of Palestinians to the continuous expropriation of land for settlements. A more even-handed approach by the US including a willingness to take punitive action against Israel when it flagrantly breaks the law would go a long way in the US being viewed as an "honest broker" by the Palestinians and other Arabs. What do we as a nation gain in the blind support that we give Israel on just about everything? |
Yup. Ataturk would be rolling in his grave. This is the only country where military coups / intervention actually seemed to keep things moving in a positive direction. Now they are f*. |
How about blind support for Palestine? Yesterday paper said we provide 400 million a year in aid? Does it occur to people we support both countries and are trying to move a peace process forward. Kidnapping killing teens, building expensive tunnels full of syringes and army uniforms probably did not help the pal cause. |
Just go away? Sounds very hateful. |
