| If a family does not come across with at least a gift card at Christmas they are on my shit list. I don't take it out on the kid because its not their decision. I guarantee you that I won't go overboard for that family the rest of the year. |

After seeing how some of these teachers are in MCPS, then I am pretty sure I won't be giving gifts this year - or my kid.
And for the crappy education my kids are getting I am shocked teachers are getting paid 6 figures for part time hours 9 months out of the year. I guess once they get that amount of money they just stop trying to be a good role model and teacher. This is a really sad thread. No one wants to give, no one wants to receive. Everyone wants to just be on their own. Losing the human connection in this very politically correct liberal diverse area. |
I would ignore the obnoxious boob. Just under six figures is what 80K or 90K ...pretty low for this area. I can't retain software developers 2 years out of school for that amount. Most of the parents in our school make five to ten times that amount so from their perspective a gift of $50 or $100 to someone not making very much money but who they know works hard is a nice thing to do. A lot of teachers do appreciate this gesture. |
Hence why teacher gifts should be done away with altogether. All kids deserve an equal education. Teacher gifts are bribes - plain and simple. They should be discouraged by MCPS with enforcement not a continual turn a blind eye to what is going on in schools all across the county this time of year. |
If you are an educator, surely you know to place the punctuation inside the quotes, like "this." (missed it twice) p.s. I am not the tipper pp, but I do provide my DC's teacher with a holiday gift card bonus. |
Not enough muslim students. Christmas is very much a secular American holiday. Collecting gifts teaches kids about giving. This is part of the national customs. If you think the school has poor jewish kids then by all means tell the teacher. Tell the kid it is a Hannuka present |

That is a question of style, actually. The American style puts the punctuation inside the quotation marks, whereas the British style puts it outside. The British style makes more sense, and it is also becoming more prevalent. http://www.slate.com/articles/life/the_good_word/2011/05/the_rise_of_logical_punctuation.html (I'm not the educator PP.) |
