My kids like movie songs, like Real Gone and Behind the Clouds from Cars. They also like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, and summer camp style songs like Ghost Chickens in the Sky.

Beach Boys and other retro surf music is good too.

They also love the Gummy Bear song, but you would be begging for death 30 seconds in. Likewise the peanut butter jelly song.

DD loves some of the old instrumental surf rock (ventures, safaris). She also enjoys more recent instrumental artists - Lindsey Stirling, Vanessa May, Escala, and Taylor Davis

+100

We played this a lot. Plus lots of Broadway soundtracks (but only because I love Broadway YMMV)

Another vote for They Might Be Giants. My daughter also liked (and still likes) David Bowie, The Talking Heads, and Blondie

Here Comes the Science is a great album.

I love "Let it Go..." from Frozen.

And I am 46.

I did kid music with my daughter but it made me crazy so when I started commuting with my toddler son we listened to the radio. He likes Maroon 5.

Queen!! Our kids LOVE pretty much anything they've done!

For example, the music in Philadelphia Chickens sounds like Broadway show tunes, plus you get Patty LuPone and other real singers. She also has a country album called Frog Trouble.

+1 Dog Train was the only "kids" album my dc listened to.

I googled Dan Zanes and he could possibly be worse than Sesame Street...

Egads, no. NOT Kids Bop, are you mad?

How old is your kid? My son likes Weezer, the Ramones (just like PP mentioned), a lot of Pixies and Breeders songs, Fleetwood Mac, Jim Croce, the Beatles, John Denver. He also loves Taylor Swift "Shake the Water Off" ("like when we give the dog a bath?" he asks. ), All About that Bass-the Jimmy Fallon show version. Whatever is on the radio and whatever he hears at home. I too show him the videos on Youtube from Sesame Street of Wil.i.am, Feist, etc. DS is 2.5yo.

Try Rocknoceros, local VA band with website, CDs who play often at Jammin Java and are genuinely nice guys who remember kids in their audience. And lately my DC is into Elvis.

My kids listen to my music. They love Vampire Weekend! I pretty much only censor NIN and Dead Kennedys. We never NEVER listen to kids music.

Enter Sandbox by Starfish.

it's awesome - DS & DD totally rock out to it, and the songs are clever and nowhere near annoying.
