Some folks are just plain unattractive. So they emphasize other things, like personality and humor. Take out the humor and personality and that describes the vast majority of people on this blog, I would imagine.

That's why we're not on TV. People like to look at attractive people.

Bullshit. Tell that to Tracey Morgan, Jack McBrayer, Bobby Moynihan, John Cryer, John Goodman, or any of THOUSANDS of men on TV who aren't required to be fuckable 24/7.

It's just the way of the world.

I'm on the older end of the millennials so it really doesn't apply to me as much, but now all the olds are looking at that show and thinking, "that's how all the 30 and under set is like." UGHHHH!

Wah, wah, wah...

It could be worse. You could be a Gen Xer and be told that "American Psycho" and "Less than Zero" define your generation.

Wait, I thought it was the Breakfast Club? Personally my life is more like a John Hughes movie.

John Hughes was a Boomer making movies about Gen X. Bret Easten Ellis is a Gen X writer who was hailed as the "voice of his generation." It's just silly media hype. Pay it no mind.

Sure, until we change it. Which is what Lena (among others) is trying to do.

I have no opinion of Lena Dunham. Found Girls to be annoying so I didn't watch. What I hate is conversations about Lena Dunham, which becomes an argument over "fat hate" and "fat acceptance." Always! It is so tedious. Get a life, ladies. Why does the mere mention of her name devolve into this tired convo? Melissa McCarthy or Oprah discussion doesn't devolve into this. So odd!

She's making a point about things but I think many of you are missing it.

I find her writing as deep as a saucer. Don't think she has any insight beyond solipsism.

There are plenty of successful unattractive women. Chloe Sevigny, Melissa McCarthy, Oprah, (yes, some of those women are fat, but so are some of pp's male examples), Whoopi Goldberg, Amy Winehouse, etc. Dunham isn't annoying because she's overweight (not FAT, I agree). She's annoying because she tries too hard to make her point.

She's annoying because she's always putting her body out there. Personally I think she's a talented writer and I like Girls, but I get tired of her needing to display her body. It's become a thing for her.

It's not that she's fat ( I consider her overweight not fat) it's that she purposely looks as sloppy as she can. Just because she's not a stick doesn't mean she can't look put together.

+1. She looks gross, and that does not = fat.

+2

gross, nothing to do with her weight

if she lost 30 pounds she would be less offensive no matter what clothes she slopped on

She's overweight. I am not sure how that translates to "damn scary." Have you always had an irrational fear of women's bodies?

She's not even unusually overweight. She's probably in the normal range for American women. People are awful.

Just because it's the normal range, does not mean it's not fat. Telling yourself that you are average, because everyone else is fat, does not make you skinny.

Oh brother. She's a real agent of change.

I think it's because we have to see a boob shot in every episode of Girls. So it's just something people notice more when you're naked, I guess?

I cannot stand her, she gets on all my nerves. That said, shaming women for their bodies is disgusting. I don't know how women can go on and on about being treated with respect and equality while in the same breath hurling attacks at other women for their appearance.

Mindy Kaling is doing a better job because she isn't nearly as in your face annoying as Lena Dunham. LD goes out of her way to provocative.

Completely agree. Mindy Kaling is for thinking women. Dunham is in it for the spectical.
