Left Keys in Door Overnight - Would You Change Locks?

Anonymous
One time we left the front door wide open. All night long. I was mostly freaked out about animals that could have made themselves at home, but all seemed to be well.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I almost never lock my front door when I'm not there.

If it was an impulsive drug addict type, they would have come on in immediately. If it was a profesional thief, they would take the keys and come back later.

If you are going to lose sleep over it, just change the lock - but think it is totally unnecessary!
Neighbors left our house after they'd had maybe a few too many drinks and left their keys in their outside door. Someone saw the keys and used the electronic car key to figure out which car was theirs and they stole it. I agree with this pp. Someone with bad intentions would have acted immediately by sneaking into your house while you're asleep or stealing your car. Can't figure out how they would be able to find someone to copy those keys immediately so they could return them before you noticed.

Great story from a couple of weeks ago - a family in Philadelphia left their front door open and a dog found them.
