Left Keys in Door Overnight - Would You Change Locks?

Anonymous
My husband does this about once a week.

You don't have to take the keys someplace to get them copied any more. You just take a phone picture of the key and email it to one of the online service. They use the image. It works. I haven't gone to a hardware store for a key in ages.

That said, I wouldn't think twice about. My husband leaves his keys in the front door every couple months, sometimes overnight. We live in Columbia Heights, and even I'm not worried about it.

Ditto.

No one would actually take the keys out, run to the locksmith, make a copy then take the time to put the keys back...Would they??????

On second thought.....Maybe you should change them locks. Just for your own piece of mind.

Just buy one of these and put it on the front door. No way the door can be opened with one of these door stoppers in place.

No, I wouldn't. We used to do this all the time when I was a kid. If the keys were gone then I would. No robber is going to take the keys, make a copy and then out them back.

Doubtful a potential perp would have returned the keys. I did this once and never had an issue. Also had an alarm turned on.

You can always put in a deadlock/chain lock (like the ones in hotel rooms) which can only be un/locked from the inside.

I been reading these comments and it has occurred to me that, people don't understand how sneaky and ruthless someone can be, this is what happened to me my son left his ? in the door all night and, I found them in the door the next morning as if nothing, and I tried to keep calm about it but it really worried me, and see I live in a three unit apartment with me on the first floor, well my neighbor took my ? to Wal-Mart and made a copy and put the ? back and I started noticing things missing, that I need I had just bought, so I informed the landlord and he changed the locks, and now I don't underestimate people, my friend lived in a third floor apartment and her neighbors would wait for her to leave and they would take the glasses out of the window frame and would enter her house that way she moved....but my point is don't underestimate no one.

The only rational response is to burn your house to the ground.

I was about to ask if OP is the same person posting about benzos and alcohol on her hands, when I realized that this thread is actually 5 years old, bumped by the...interesting...comment above.

Of course it wasn’t - to humorless people. Those of us without a stick up their a$$ thought it was hilarious.

Can you get additional locks put on? On the outside?

I would like to make sure you and your mental illness are kept away from the scary dangers of the outside world.
