Glad to hear that a $1.2 M house is doable but helpful to be reminded that it would be very dependent on our two incomes remaining the same or higher.

A 10k wedding must have blown. My parents spent around 100 for the same amount of guests.

Bless your heart, dearie, this isn't something to brag about.

Wasn't bragging. Was just saying 10k seems low. I don't know anyone who spent less than 100 on a wedding.

The OP is wise... You, on the other hand sound like a real dumb ass and a spoiled shit..

NP here. One of the least fun weddings I have ever been to was clearly a six figure wedding (with like 300 people) that was stuffy and pretentious. The food was amazing, but there was a classical orchestra and no one danced.

On the other hand, some of the most fun weddings I have been to have been low budget backyard BBQ style weddings. I think what makes a wedding fun is the couple and being able to have fun with close friends as opposed to every business associate of the couple. DH and I had about a 30k wedding, which still seems like a lot of money to me, and it was so much fun. The dance floor was packed all night! The pp bragging about the 100k wedding sounds boring and lame.

Why do you think the pp is bragging?

We bought a year ago a house for just under 1m, HHI around 300k. We feel comfortable with the mortgage payment.

For the PP who purchased their home for $1 million on 300K HHI, how much is your mortgage on the house? And do you have kids? (Thank you!)

We recently got to 300K but seem to spend too much on childcare, camps, and after-school classes. So that limits our ability to buy more of a house (or add on).

We are at 320k and have a 599 mortgage. We feel very comfortable

You can't really get much for 599, I assume you had a large down payment. We are at this HHI and have a 900k mortgage which feels comfortable as well.

We only put 20 percent down. We live in DC. We want to live well within our means and pay off the loan in five years.

we are at $360 HHI. we bought a house for $1.2 and have a mortgage of $500k. this is doable, but I wouldn't want to have a much bigger monthly payment.

To the PPP who had $50k in credit card debt, knock that out before you buy a bigger house or expand. Give yourselves some time to save a bit at your new HHI, too.
