How much do you spend on groceries per month?

I think PP meant $1000 including eating out, but there was an auto correct error? Easy to spend lots on eating out.

Family of 2, roughly $300/mo on groceries averaged out. We eat mostly vegetarian with lots of fresh veggies and fruits (usually whatever's on sale that week). We eat out maybe 2-4 times a month and budget $70/mo for that.

2 adults + baby = $650 (including formula and diapers)

Yikes, I knew we needed to cut back, didn't realize how much. On average we spend $1000 on groceries, $1000 on dining out, and $300 on beer and wine. We have an elementary and a middle schooler and 2 adults.

Don't worry - we are in the same boat with you and we only have one kid - preschooler.

$1,000 eating out, $1,000 in groceries.

If you want to make yourself feel better, I calculated we were spending around 30k a year dining out and drinking in New York. Now we save over half our income. Boy were those years fun...

Pp here. I remember those days LOL. Back when we could save a ton just by stopping going out.

You can also save a ton by pulling out

Two adults, $620/month on groceries, mostly from Trader Joe's...plus another $620/mo. average on dining out. Both amounts include booze. I don't FEEL like we eat out often, and I do a lot of cooking at home. No meat, some organic veggies and milk/eggs. We pack lunches most days. I budget for $800 total and we always blow it. Ugh.

Family of four (two teenage boys)
~$1200 per month
Mostly Trader Joes.

We eat out about twice a month and get pizza in every Friday. DH and I eat leftovers for lunch. Boys bring packed lunch to school.

Taco night for $10ish - 1lb of ground beef on sale, taco seasoning packet, bag of taco chips, some cheese, salsa, sour cream, beans, etc.

Baked potato night for less than $10- some unbreaded chicken tenders on sale, potatoes, salsa, sour cream, lemon juice, cheese, etc. fresh or frozen green beans.

Salad night less than $10 - head of romaine lettuce, cut up lunchmeat (turkey/ham etc), cheese, salad dressing, hard boiled eggs, etc.

Breakfast for dinner - $10ish eggs, bacon, cheese, toast, sliced tomatoes, fresh grapes, etc.

Sometimes we have sandwiches + chips + carrot/celery sticks. That's super cheap too.

We don't eat steaks, porkchops, etc. - not huge meat eaters.

In the winter I make a lot of soups that we eat with toast and some fresh veggies.

Where are all the vegetables? This is what kills me. If I want to eat fruits and vegetables then our grocery bill runs $700/mo for 3 of us.

And where do you get taco ingredients for $10? In my hood it's
Beef - ~$5 if you can find a small serving (but don't really know because we don't eat meat since it's too expensive)
Shells/chips - $3/4
Cheese - $5
Sour cream - $4
Salsa - $5
Beans - $3
And this sucks because it doesn't include fresh lettuce or tomato

Groceries are so expensive that I find the cheapest meal is an $8 chipotle burrito that my husband and I split.

new poster here.
Where are you finding sour cream for $1 a container?
Really, where?
At my grocery it is at least $2-3 for 8 ounce of the store brand.
And tortillas for 99 cents? Again at our grocery (Giant, Safeway, etc) 8 of them are at least $2.

Where (exactly--location of store) do you shop??????

1 adult - $1,500+ that does include eating out most days and top shelf drinks.
