"Here we go, Barack...You wanna hit this?"

Neither of those things is what upsets me in this article. Maybe it's part of my old-fashioned conservative views, but I'm most bothered by the news reports that we've now stooped to calling our President "Barack". Maybe it hearkens to the threads about whether people allow their three year olds to refer to adults by their first names without a Mr. or Ms. Modifier. But, something makes me sad that we've reached a stage where respect is not a valued trait at all.

Like him or not, we've elected him. well, not me, but you get my point. He's the President of the United States, and although we're struggling we are arguably still the strongest nation on the world stage. He's got a pretty powerful job, and to kid ourselves that he's just like you and me is ridiculous. Makes me sad on a broader societal scale.

That's it. Carry on with bashing Jeff, Obama, Congress and anyone else you can think of.
Nobody calls Bush by this first name nor Clinton nor Romney This goes far, far deeper addressing Obama by his first name.

I respect the Office regardless who is there, and I guarantee you will NOT see the same level of disrespect when the next president takes charge regardless whether a Democrat or Republican, period.

PP again. Can you imagine the righteous indignation for protocol at the State of the Union address if Joe Wilson had yelled 'you lie' at Bush or Clinton or Reagan or Kennedy? That indignation was not really apparent (a slap on the hand and a beer) with Obama.

I don't like it, but kids don't call adults by their titles as much anymore. Also, the occasion of this occurrence--and the fact that there are photos out there of O as a youth smoking, just might affect people's behavior.

Don't approve of Wilson's "you lie"--but it turned out to be "spot on". How many Presidents have stood up and made bald faced lies in Congress?

And you wonder why the rest of the world has no respect for us. This is about a time and place. The State of the Union address was not the forum for that.

It is obvious your intent is to derail from the thought of respect for the office. Sorry, you'll have to find someone else to roll in the mud with you.

And you don't think other presidents had youthful indiscretions? With photos?

The left likes to refer to President Bush as "Dubyu". Not his first name but not his title either.

^^^We won't even go to what the right calls the democratic presidents, past and present. However, even the dems didn't call Bush by his first name when discussing serious and non-serious issues even if it was to distinguish between the two Bushes.

Not the kind we've seen of Obama.

There is plenty of written documentation about presidential and politicians in general of not so dignified behavior. Paint your own photo.

It may have been "only a cigarette", but he has admitted to smoking pot.

I might hold Dick Cheney accountable for other things but certainly not what he did at 22 when he received his 2nd DUI. There's a whole lot of youthful indiscretion to go around, and not just with Obama. Nobody is walking water, not even you PP.

If you think other presidents and politicians didn't induge in other vices, you are deluding yourself. Obama disclosed. Many do not. I wouldn't.

Probably every single one of them?
