so is the opinion of this forum that a rescue would be able to find someone to take a 9 yo dog that barks, snips, is generally anxious, hard to housebreak and has large medical bills?

YES! Because they are not paying full price as a rescue. There are many people who take in such dogs. They are "dog people" signed, rescue worker. (but you need to be forceful about it)

OP: Call the breeder. People have different abilities to deal with a dog at different points in their lives. Maltese are very popular. Never mind that 'lifelong commitment" crap -- any breeder knows that things happen. signed, breeder.

Please give up this dog. Yes there are rescue people that will either foster the dog or adopt the dog. Do not put it on Craig's list. Either give it to the Arlington County Animal Rescue, Washington Humane Society or go onto the Maltese club of America/Virginia and check out their rescue organization page.

In the amount of time you have spent sending posts about how much you dislike this dog you could have found a good rescue organization by now.

+1000 on the rescue route. Please do not continue to imprison an animal you hate. Its not good for you and definitely not good for the dog. If you feel actual hate then you are completely not equipped to be the owner of this or possibly any dog. But clearly not this dog.

By all means call City Dogs Rescue. Or Washington Animal Rescue League. The animal will not be put down. Try not to sound like a total asshat on the phone which means do not sound like you did here. Explain that you have tried, but the behavior issues are such that due to havng a baby, you are not able to make the accommodations.

Say its important to you the dog not be put down.

Say you know these are long lived dogs and could live out a better life elsewhere than you can ever give it.

3) do not sound like you did here

IF you are not devoid of all regard for another beings life, then do the right thing and give the dog up already. Someone else can do better. And then all your awful dog problems will go away.
