I quit my Social Work Position today and I have never felt happier

The vast majority of people wouldn't quit a job out of fear of not being able to make rent and keep food on the table. Materialism has nothing to do with it. Just saying the MSW is fortunate that she has a husband who can support her. Geez.

Most people IN DC live way above their means and if they curbed their spending maybe somebody could quit a job like the OP, maybe the OP has plans to live on a credit card for a few months or to pick up a job at a restaurant which would probably has the same pay as a SW. Last time I checked restaurants and malls were jammed packed with customers, but maybe you don't live in DC, maybe you are posting from Pensacola. This is DCUM, not FOCM, so we are not having a discussion about them.

Good God, some of you are so pathetically jealous.

I'm fully employed, but maybe you are an idiot that you don't manage your finances well, or that you married a loser who can't pull his share.

I can manage my fiances very well but $50K as a single parent doesn't go very far in this area. I could cover 2 or maybe 3 months of expenses if I up and quit my job. No amount of financial savvy will change that fact.

You have bigger problems then.

Well, quitting a job if you aren't financially stable is a gamble. And your suggestion of living off of credit cards is also imprudent and risky. I hope the op lands on her feet and doesn't regret her decision. Best of luck to the OP!

Wow, bring on the haters win the "I guess your husband is rich" comments. OP, good for you for following your happiness and having the strength to leave. I hope you find a great position very soon.

Why are you all so worried and obsessed with the OPs financial position?

The real message here is that people doing good work like social work are being driven out by high case loads, little to no support, untouchable horrible government employee managers, and inefficient and cumbersome bureaucracy…and here you all are focused on OPs W2.

Envy is the thief of joy…never a more true quote.

It is a gamble to continue to work at a job that is causing extreme stress. That kills people every year. I'd rather be busted and broke than dead over a fucking job.

Being homeless will cause plenty of stress too.

Get off your high horse. People quit their jobs for all sort of reasons. Working with somebody like you is one.

Congrats, OP! I was a social worker for 12 years and hated it! I went to grad school for something totally different and love my job now.

Enjoy!!
