s/o: Do you still write checks?

Anonymous
Pay all of my normal bills online but checks are still very much a part of my life. I use them to pay school fees like field trips, the housekeeper, and to get cash from Giant. I hardly every carry cash - stopped doing that after my house was broken into WHILE were were sleeping...someone stole my handbag and wallet that had about $200 cash in it, laptop and digital camera.

so now when I need cash I go to Giant, buy a something small and pay by check, for $50 over the amount. voila, I have avoided ATM fees and have $50 in my wallet

Even providers who run a home business mostly online seem to prefer paper checks. Whatever, it's all the same to us, except it wastes paper.
echelon can be a hassle. I had someone pay me with one once and I entered all my bank info multiple times and the system wouldn't accept it. I know for a fact it was correct and I banked with a major bank at the time. The person who sent it to me didn't believe I couldn't access the funds because it was immediately deducted from their account. I had to wait a couple of weeks to get paid and it was a hassle.

I haven't had anyone complain of that, but we're always willing to pay via paper check for those who prefer it. One provider told me she considers the bill paid once she's holding the check vs if it's just an email sitting in her inbox that we've sent, she feels like our exchange/agreement isn't complete. It was a psychological thing, no problems with the service, at least on her end. To us, the balance on our account is updated more quickly with an e-check than with a papercheck, so it's quicker and keeps our accounts more accurate, but of course we do whatever the service provider wants. It's their business.

I hate e-checks. A regular check clears within 48 hours and I deposit from my phone. That's quick enough for me. I've had a-checks take a week to clear, or weeks to accept my info.

I almost always use checks. I am beginning to hate technology and have daydreams of going off the grid.

Cancel cable, phone, sell stocks , buy gold, cash out bank accounts, pay with money orders or cash, cash paychecks immediately, buy a gun and ammo, communicate verbally or with letters / notes, get rid of car ... Use bike/public transportation/scooter. Sell home. Rent home on well/septic/solar cells and propane.

I wonder how fast the government would track me down for daring not to be monitored or accessible .

In my business, technology has finally gotten to the point that it was easier , more profitable and simpler when we used typewriter / mail / developed photos / tape /whiteout in the 80s. Profit is narrower , work is more aggravating, busibodies are infesting every facet. There's not enough base money to compensate all the busibodies parasiting with remote technology from their little euro offices with their Starbucks and skinny man jeans. I am glad I'm getting close to retirement.

On the bright side I bought a bunch of college rental houses and that requires no technology. I see them once every 3 months and charge exhorbitant rent. All I say is "give me the check ." The skinny Jean Starbucks naar do well 24/7 hooked to tech kids parent empty their college funds into my pocket ....... With a check.

I like simple. You need shelter and a place to crap at school? Cut the check!! No tech !

Why don't you just use cash back from your debit card?

Or go to an ATM associated with your bank that doesn't charge a fee?
