Lady, I just moved here. If these responses are meant to scare me away from even wanting to send my child to MV, they've worked. You know what? I too did a ton of work and research about my child's school. I did a ton of work and research in New York, and then again, about six weeks ago when I discovered that despite all the work and energy I'd put into our NYC public, and the research I'd done selecting it, fate had other plans for us. That's called life. I spent hours pouring over these boards, but what I found about MV and most other charters was actually not that detailed. It is very difficult to sort through marketing buzzwords and the internet and figure out what's actually on offer. All I did was ask a question. A sincere question.

And the MV boosters are at it again. They never like constructive criticism. Glad the school moved so I wouldn't have to join these snobby moms, but I'm sure somone was happy I gave up my spot.

I don't think anyone is being defensive. I think they are trying to answer the questions, but it is tedious to start from scratch each time.

Google Mundo verde dcurbanmom and read the threads. If you have lingering questions, I'm sure someone will answer.

Thanks for the information about what the school actually offers, parent who gave it. It looks like a great program--field trips are fantastic. But yeah... I think this is an Arts & Letters/Community Roots kind of school. With Spanish.

FWIW my google searches mostly turn up how desirable the school is, how hard it is to get into, and how everyone likes it. There's not a lot of information. The wordpress blog had specifics, very helpful ones, but I can understand why it's not publicized, with the kid's names on it.

Actually, I think the link should be removed. It is purposefully not publicized for the children's safety.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but if the school is so concerned about safety they either

a) should password-protect the blog (not hard to do!)
b) not post identifying information (not sure that first names are particularly risky though)

Well honey you asked your question in the wrong place. DCUM is full of vitriolic, griping witches who love to pounce whenever possible. Somewhere in there you may get some good information. Now someone is going to respond that if I don't like the response, I should not read or post in the forum. Just wait and see.

I just tried to go into it to see whatever helpful information there is and it is indeed now password protected. Thanks DCUM.

I do feel for the PP who was trying to get more information--it does seem like any time a newcomer asks about any highly regarded charter school they are told not to bother asking since they'll never get in. On the other hand, if any parent tries to write a specific response that praises their school, they are shouted down as a booster.

Ew. Glad we turned MV down.

Just gave up MV K spot

I wonder the commute is the main reason why families are turning down their spots? For us it was.

Anonymous
Why bother applying if the commute is unacceptable.
